The integration of these two disciplines Clinical and Informatics, helps informaticians to provide the best quality care by integrating people with systems, processes and information technology. According to The Journal of Nursing Administration Informatics incorporates 1) data gathering, 2) data representation, 3) information management. Informaticians work closely with IT practitioners to integrate the workflow into the system design. Their contextual knowledge of the practice workflow, exploring of the advantages and disadvantages help the informaticians to create systems that are clear and help physicians make a decision. Informaticians can help rule out implications that might potentially create problems and they can recognize some tools, as being important to the clinical setting that the ITs might not
Write a synopsis about the development of nursing research and knowledge. Nursing research is developed on the foundation of evidence-based practice (EBP). Nurse researchers evaluate EBP accordingly to ensure the best practice. Researchers usually use a PICOT question format to develop research questions. The PICOT stands for population, intervention, comparison, outcome, and time.
APN Role and Leadership Competencies Julliet A. Thomas Grantham University Abstract There are many different aspects of Advance Practice Nursing (APN) make that make the nursing profession unique and valuable. The competencies that comprise each advanced practice nursing discipline are vital in creating a solid foundation for clinical nursing. They prepare you to conquer challenges in the clinical setting and cultivate innovation to establish processes for clinical practice. Advance Practice Nursing is recognized as 4 nursing roles: Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), the Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and the Nurse Practitioner (NP). While the main focus of APNs is clinical practice and direct patient care,
Change agents or opinion leaders can influence the promotion and adoption of nursing evidence-based practice through creativity and persistence (Huber, 2014). I agree that sustaining an evidence-based practice occurs when the practice becomes ‘the new accepted
A leader may achieve this with captivation, emotional intelligence, and through the empowerment of followers (Hutchison & Jackson, 2013). Moreover, transformational leadership research focuses on individual traits and leader-follower dyad characteristics that influence organizational change. Many research studies explore this theory and its impact on the nursing profession (Fischer, 2016). Largely, transformational leadership in the nursing context is directly and indirectly associated with staff satisfaction, decreased turnover, and improved patient outcomes (Fischer, 2016; Bormann, & Abrahamson, 2014; Merrill, 2015). It is possible to connect the benefits of transformational leadership styles to the leader 's ability to empower followers, simultaneously increasing their commitment to the organization (Fischer, 2016; Bormann, & Abrahamson, 2014; Merrill, 2015).
Evidence-Based Practice Application The practice of nursing has changed over the years from a task-oriented job to a science-based profession (Brown, 2013). With this change, research studies have become a pivotal part of the nursing profession, providing the information that is used to expand, improve, and generate new nursing knowledge (Brown, 2013). Evidence-based practices (EBP) in nursing are based on the best available research data generated from these studies (Weng et al., 2013). An example of the research used in documenting an EBP was found in an article by Hammonds et al. (2015).
“Concept clarification is an important step in developing useful and useable knowledge in nursing science.” (Tofthagen, 2010). Within the home health field of nursing one of the major and most significant concepts is team work. Simply stated, concept analysis incorporates a method or approach by which concepts that are of interest to a discipline are examined in order to clarify their characteristics or attributes” (Cronin, 2010). Within a home health care team there are Registered Nurses, Physical Therapists, Home Health Aides, Medical Social Workers, Managed Care Coordinators, and Clinical Managers. Within this team specific goals are set and a plan of care is designed and established.
Knowledge translation has been facilitating the effective and timely incorporation of evidence-based information into the practices of health professionals in a way as to effect optimal health care outcomes and maximize the potential of the health care system ( as cited in Sudsawad, 2007). The age of informatics has excelerated the nursing evolution by providing insights and opportunities to improve health outcomes by the application of mathematics, engineering, information science, and related social sciences such
This term as remembered was taken from an industry practice which measured quality, time and cost. This was also called “best practice benchmarking” which allowed organizations to plan, compare, and adopt best practices. With further development of this concept, nursing has progressed to EBP, which is unique to nursing practice. Educators must look to pedagogies that use constructivist experiential learning, not just in the class room, but as a clinical learning experience. With the changes in healthcare, shortages of nurses, increase in technology educators are now in the position to create a new atmosphere of learning that inspires inquiry and a quest to further develop EBP.
