The term six research theory course, NURS 495, emphasized the importance of nurse leadership and how nurses can influence positive changes in health care delivery to patients with chronic illness. It also explored the contradictions that exist in nursing practice and encouraged the students to develop a critical and pragmatic approach to client care. The co-requisite clinical course, NURS 499, integrated nursing theory and current best practice on an acute care nursing unit at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. In this consolidated learning analysis, I will explore a nursing practice event that will illustrate the major issues surrounding the treatment of competing mental health comorbidities in a patient with hoarding behaviors.

Not all heroes wear capes, they wear scrubs too. The career I plan to pursue is a nurse practitioner. A nurse practitioner diagnoses and treats illnesses, independently or as part of a healthcare team, such as hospital. Their focus is disease prevention towards their patients and everyone. Nurse practitioners may order, perform, or interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and X-rays, they may also prescribe medication.
My capstone project is about the need for nurses to learn about cultural diversity, cultural awareness and cultural sensitivity. This has been a fascinating project to explore and I am learning about so many cultural beliefs. When a patient's cultural practice is understood competent patient care is rendered and health care disparities are eliminated. For example, in some cultures many people believe that illness and evil can be prevented by following strict religious codes, morals and practices.
Role of the Advanced Practice Nurse The role of the advanced practice nurse is very diverse. There are four roles that I am going to discuss in this paper and they are as follows, Nursing Informatics (NI), Nurse Educator, Nurse Administrator, and Nurse Practitioner (NP). According to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Nursing Informatics is defined as a specialty that combines nursing with multiple information management and analytical science.
The Indiana State Board of Nursing (2011) defines advanced practice nursing as a registered nurse who has attained advanced knowledge and skills through an organized program of study. The three categories of study include nurse practitioner, certified nurse mid-wife, or clinical nurse specialist. National certification is not required for nurse practitioners completing an accredited graduate program. However, if the continuing education is part of a certificate program then a national certification is required. Although certification is not required in Indiana, Riley Hospital for Children nurse practitioners are required to certify within one year of employment.

There is a high significance for a nursing student completing their degree in nursing to start their career as a nurse practitioner. Nursing students must prepare to become nationally certified by an accredited body upon completion of their schooling in order to advance their career (AANP, 2016). This academic accreditation process helps to show that the students have met the requirements to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in their population focus testing. The scope of practice will be affected based on the certification that the practitioner obtains. If the Nurse Practitioner obtains a certification as a nurse specialists in pediatrics, oncology, geriatrics, emergency medicine, etc.
Week five; the heart takes its first beat. Week sixteen; the lungs take their first breath. Week twenty-three; the first movement is felt. To have the privilege to be part of this life-changing journey and a woman’s story is what inspires me to become a midwife. Pregnancy and birth are natural processes in which I believe all women are designed for and therefore capable of.
In 1870, nursing had been learnt from the mothers to the daughters. Now it has been changed to the school education that the students learn the nursing skill from the nursing professionals and the education programs of nursing keep developing from the 1900s to now that the diploma school has been changed to BSN, AND, and the postgraduate school has also been replaced by Master degree, CNL, PhD, DNSc, ND and DNP (Martha, n.d.). Personal Statement for Nursing School “When a person decides to become a Nurse. They make the most important decision of their lives. They choose to dedicate themselves to the care of others” Growing up in Nigeria; I had my first introduction to the field of medicine at the age of 6. At the time, my grand father was a holistic doctor at my local community. Whenever my grandfather went to work, he would take me with him and I remembered being very fascinated by how people would come in to get treatments for different kinds of diseases.
These skills include nurse-patient relationship skill, interactional skills, basic physical examination skills, clinical encounter across the life span, therapeutic communication skills, positive attitudinal skills etc. Assessing the development of nursing skills in students should be done often and acquiring of these nursing skills should also be a continuous learning process. This indicates that extensive experiences and supervision from mentors, preceptors, supervisors, teachers, considerable time on task and involvement of students are necessary to achieve a considerable nursing skill performance. The students’ interest in practice and the environment also influences the development and acquisition of nursing skills. In this case, students’ goals should include increased self-knowledge and scientific awareness in addition to their gradual improvement in professional nursing practice.
