Obesity is a problem not only in America but all over the world. Obesity is most focused in America because of all the fast food restaurants there are and people not getting enough physical activity. Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has gathered to the extent that it may have a negative effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and, or increased health problems. Obesity doesn’t occur just in adults but as well as children, college students and pets. And the fact that there is no help from the government to stop this growing epidemic. Some of the health effects of being obese or overweight include: Coronary Heart Disease, Cancer, High Blood Pressure, Osteoarthritis, Stroke, Sleep Apnea, Type 2 Diabetes, Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome, Gallstones, Abnormal Blood Fats, Metabolic Syndrome, and Reproductive Problems. Coronary Heart Disease and strokes are caused when a waxy substance called plaque clogs your arteries. When overweight adults are more at risk for getting colon, breast, endometrial, and gallbladder cancer. For example, in elementary school you could either bring a lunch or the school would provide a lunch. About fifty percent of kids eat the lunches from the school. These meals might include: pizza, corn dogs, chicken nuggets, chocolate milk, and cookies. These good are not healthy and the food the schools provide plays a huge factor in child obesity. Has the government fixed this problem? Another example is fast food restaurants. There are so many different types of places to choose where to eat, all unhealthy, and loaded with calories. Why doesn’t the government have a rule on how many chains they can have in one state? These are some the most important questions
Therefore, the government shouldn’t have any say in what we eat or what nutritional values we take in. One reason is that we don’t get enough nutrition. Another reason is that some kids go home hungry because they don’t get enough income from their homes to afford food. Lastly, obesity rates have only dropped a slight amount which is not enough to make a difference.
The high obese population can be explained by culture, portion sizes, food companies and restaurant policies, diets, and traditions. Obesity is not only an individual issue; it is most importantly a national matter. It raises both individual and collective problems related to economic and demographic dynamics. Therefore, based on the alarming rate obesity is growing, it is crucial at this point to find a solution in order to slow down and hopefully stop this epidemic. Comparing diets of different countries and taking a look at the background story of American nutrition and regimes, it is clear that the American diet is very different from other nationalities and has worsened over the decades.
Today about one in three children in the United States are obese, and is the number one cause of death in America. Childhood obesity is now more concerning to people than drug abuse and smoking. Obesity not only has disgusting physical effects, it also will have negative changes to a person’s personality. Even though many people are aware of the problems obesity brings, there still has been at least a 50% increase in obese people since 1980. Obesity will cause extreme health problems and possibly death if people don’t change their diets, activity levels, or emotional needs towards food.
Obesity has been a major problem in America for a long time every since junk food and fast food came into play. Now in America there is 78.6 million obese adults and counting (CDC). Obesity can lead to heart disease, stroke and even type 2 diabetes if worse enough. The estimated obesity medical bill was over 147 billion dollars in United States this shows that when you get obesity that is why you should stay active and eat more healthy foods. Obesity can be prevented by being active and getting enough exercise, eat healthy foods and try to stay away from junk food, finally reduce screen time and find other things to do than watching television.

Obesity kills lots of people with other diseases like heart diseases, diabetes, and some cancers. Obesity is a condition where a person has accumulated so much body fat that it might hurt their health. If a person's body weight is at least 20% higher than it should be, he or she is considered obese. Junk food is one reason people get overweight and have diseases that kill them. There are things people can do to get rid of obesity in America.
The obesity rate in America today is unreasonably high and something needs to be done about it. In the article Taxing Junk food to counter obesity published by the Us National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health in 2013 and states “Several studies suggest that high taxes may lead to measurable decreases in obesity on a population level, particularly if combined with additional interventions”. This law needs to be legalized for the safety and health of our nation for these reasons: Our obesity rate is at a all time high, This has been implemented in other countries around the world, and it more expensive to be obese. Our obesity rate in America is at a high rate and is only increasing, we as a nation need to make an effort to lower this percentage. One reason stems from the fact that many low-income neighborhoods lack safe, accessible places to exercise”. A big factor of this issue is also caused by the food deserts who lack access to large grocery stores who sells fresh products. An estimated total of 23.5 million people in America do not have the access to the supermarket within a mile of their home. As the targeted people get used to the unhealthy lifestyle, it is also known that American restaurants have improved sales with bigger meal sizes because of the growing urge to be satisfied. Not only is “health experts warning that the current generation of children may be the first in American history to have shorter life expectancy than their parents”, but food companies are producing enough foods for each American citizen to consume an overwhelming number – 3800 – calories everyday where as the average human only need 2350 calories in order to survive.
Should the government impose restrictions on what kinds of foods can be served in school cafeterias? I believe that the government should put restrictions on what types of food can be severed during lunches. During school, all of our lunches tastes horrible because it just processes food. America has a huge obesity problem and people eating habits start when they are young so if there eating unhealthy food during school there going to have that problem for the rest of their lives. If we had fresh healthy food you would see a significant difference in American obesity problem which is one thing that we need to fix a lot right now.

Obesity leads to many health issues. Some of these health issues include heart disease, strokes, and even diabetes.
According to the latest statistics from various sources, 1 out of 3 kids are obese in America and obesity is gradually becoming more and more common as it affects 37 percent of all adults and nearly 18 percent of all children in America (Yaniv and Rosin, 2009). The problem of obesity is also rising in parts of the developing world, as income levels rise and people have access to fattier products. In fact, the percentage of adult obesity has more than doubled while children’s obesity rates have more than tripled within the past thirty years around the globe (Yaniv and Rosin, 2009). However, despite the rise in global obesity rates, an alarming estimate of about 112,000 deaths are associated with obesity each in the U.S. alone. One of the chief causes is many people suffering from obesity do not make healthy food choices (Sturm, Powell, Chriqui and Chaloupka, 2010).
To change the world we need to combat obesity! Being that obesity is the 5th leading cause of deaths worldwide it has become a major issue (EASO, n.d.). Obesity is no longer just in the high income countries we associate it with, it’s now prevalent in middle and low income countries as well. This is cause for concern because now 65% of the world’s population lives in a country where more people die from being overweight or obese instead of being underweight. Death is an extreme when it comes to obesity, but still likely, and it’s mostly seen in the elderly.
Fast food and unhealthy living are all problems with today’s society. As a hole there should be more restaurants that promote healthy food choices. Imagine a school that has multiple healthy school food options, that is worth standing in line for. I think that all schools should have a healthy school lunch. It's very important to have nutritious school lunches so that we can be healthy and have energy during the school day. I think we should have better and healthier school menus. Our school menus are very high in cholesterol and saturated fat.
