Before these experiences, my knowledge was limited to complex definitions and theories that I did not fully grasp. Through personal interaction and engagement, I have a deeper understanding of occupation and what it means and the role it plays in the field of Occupational Therapy. Not only did these experiences affect me individually These experiences were invaluable to me as an individual OT student – Not only do I have a deeper understanding of clients and their occupations, but my passion for occupational therapy was reborn after engaging with patients and children face-to-face. I am confident that these experiences will also impact my professional behaviour, now and in the future. These experiences have truly helped me grow, learn and develop and an Ot
Larson (1984) defines caring as the core, essence and distinguishing attribute of nursing. I believe that I possess the strength to care for others and behave in a caring manner. In the past I have shown my strength in this area of nursing care when looking after family members that have fallen victim to sickness. Whenever someone tells me that they are not feeling well, I immediately jump into action and try my best to make sure that they feel “cared for” .The feeling of pride and satisfaction I experience after caring for a person that is unwell is what originally made me choose nursing as a career. Caring is a basic attribute of human growth and development (Griffin 1983).
I deeply believe that navigating through this has influenced my life and my nursing style. Through this cultural challenge, I formed coping mechanisms for when I feel uncomfortable or when I am in opposition, again this will benefit me when I am in moral distress and day-to-day nursing tasks. 4. In retrospect, how would you handle the challenge differently OR what did you learn from this experience? (20
Saying this, although there is a variety of issues amongst the medical community when concerning injustice, it’s our duty as future health care professionals to make a change. The experience I went through only made me want to help sooner rather than later which increases my passion for medicine. Helping people is what I want to do, but making an actual difference is the real outcome that I
I am currently completing my certified nurse program to proceed with a job as a patient care technician. I believe a job as a certified nurse assistant will give me a better insight while working beside nurses and observe what set of skills nurses use. My strengths that best suit my personality and this program are determination, effort, caring, critical thinker, discipline, and enthusiastic. These qualities would reflect on a nurse and would make caring for the patient easier. I believe that I belong in the nursing field, because ever since I was a child, I always wanted to make a positive influence in people's lives.
The score of my baseline clinical leadership survey indicates that I exhibit decent clinical leadership in my nursing practice, but I feel that this survey does not cover all the qualities and behaviours that make a successful clinical leader. The LPI indicates that I need major improvement to my “encouraging the heart” practice; I would really like to learn how to improve in this area as it seems like a fairly simple thing to do, yet I fail to do it in my nursing practice. I would also like to continue to build upon areas where I currently demonstrate strengths, as excellence in clinical practice is necessary to be an effective leader. Specifically I would like to focus on ways to improve upon my reflective practice techniques, and ability
Initially, I have well-created communication aptitudes that have ended up being exceptionally useful over the span of my work in the health and social care environment. Now, it merits specifying the way that communication abilities helped me to set up positive relations with clients and give them health care as well as with advising administration. Additionally, my hypothetical information in health and social care were likewise critical qualities that helped me to perform effectively. My hypothetical information laid the ground for the improvement of viable aptitudes and experience. In addition to this, the improvement of my professional abilities over the span of my work was encouraged by my hypothetical learning in the field of health and social
Staff were welcoming and, despite the organising of the observation taking a long time, the observation gave good insights in to patient experiences and leadership. I think the observation was useful to my partner and I, as it made us feel as if we now had a better insight in to patient experience and its effects on care. The experience itself was good; it was useful to gain that insight. One thing I did realise that was although we thought it went well, the insights we gained may not have been a true reflection of patient experience. To combat this, we could have asked more individuals to conduct the observations on various dates at various times.
I feel that these results have has a positive influence on my behavior because they have allowed me to explore my inner being on a deeper level. I have identified a few strengths and weaknesses that affect who I am as a leader. By identifying my weaknesses, I can make improvements prior to becoming a nurse. When working in groups I can start to analyze how I work with other and if my weaknesses hinder my ability to assist and lead others. Over time I will be able to analyze how I can work more efficiently as a leader within the hospital and possibly create a positive
Description: I had the opportunity to work as a teaching assistant for a graduate epidemiology course, first as a volunteer and then in a paid position. It was an enriching experience, and I was able to do more than simply help facilitate the course. I increased my own understanding of the subject by leading recitation periods, tutoring students, and working with an accomplished faculty member. Teaching also helped improve my communication skills, which include the ability to speak clearly and listen carefully. Both of these skills will help me to be a better physician.
Knowing that I changed that life, that because of me hopefully their health will better instead of worsen. Through this program I hope to learn from the community, to learn their experiences, which will allow me to be even more conscious of the disparities they are forced to face, hence causing me to ponder “how can this issue be fixed?”, “what policy can be implemented”?. Being able to connect with the community and with my peers will be a valuable and unforgettable experience. Not only will I be able to learn from the community, but from my fellow peers, medical students, high school students, and other undergraduates as well. Getting to me mentored by people who have done what I want to do will be enriching, it’ll be an experience that ill cherish forever.
I have always been interested in a career in the care industry, and after meeting with an experienced occupational therapist, I was sure that occupational therapy is a career suited to my personality and abilities. I am excited by the diverse nature of the work and the effect that meaningful activity can have in helping individuals improve their quality of life and achieve personal goals. I am a sympathetic listener, open-minded and tolerant of others lifestyles and I think that along with my problem-solving skills, and desire to help people, the range of activities which I am skilled at and enjoy would greatly aid me in helping people to rehabilitate themselves. I look forward to attending ________ where I will learn the skills necessary to make a difference by helping people gain independence and increase confidence. I want to be part of such an awarding and diverse career; working closing with people and helping them
Healthy People 2020 aims to educate and support the nation in wellness and prevention just as well as nurses do. Nurse as well as Healthy People aim to improve each individual’s health in more ways than one.
