Many people would argue that he is, those people are dead now, the remaining people state that he’s just an average guy who happens to be blessed by several ancient gods known to unfairly punish their subjects. When in reality he’s not trying to be rude nor hurt others, but is out purely for himself and his journey to re-obtain the love of his lost wife Penelope.
In the epic poem The Odyssey by Homer Odysseus, the protagonist, was a soldier in the Trojan war that lasted ten years. On Odysseus’s journey He and his men face many obstacles along their way like monsters, temptresses, and gods. Odysseus was the only member of his crew to make it home to Ithaca, the island he was king of. Odysseus was away from Ithaca twenty years. Odysseus was unheroic because he was hypocritical, selfish, and arrogant.

The tale begins on the island of Ithaca where Telemakhos, the son of the warrior Odysseus, is confronted by the goddess Athena. The Grey-Eyed-Goddess tells Telemakhos to step up and make something out of his life, by setting out on a quest to learn about his father, who has been away for 20 years. While Telemakhos is set off on his journey to find his father, Odysseus is trapped on the island of Kalypso, lusting for his home. He then sets out on a long journey in an attempt to get back to his wife, Penelope, and his family back in Ithaca.
There tends to be much similarity between many different works. This essay hopes to show the reader the similarities between Homer’s, The Odyssey, and DreamWorks Animation’s, Flushed Away, in the form of their journey. In The Odyssey we follow Odysseus on his journey from the Trojan War to his home, Ithaca, which unbeknownst to him is overrun with suitors, who eat all his food and try to take over his country by marrying his wife. Along the way he makes many stops at island where he meets many different kinds of creatures and people. He faces many challenges and obstacles, many set him back and push him further from his home.

In The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus is the main character of the epic poem. Three adjectives that describe him are brave, clever, and overconfident. Firstly, the adjective brave describes Odysseus. An example of him being brave is when he uses a spike to blind the Cyclops’ eye.
Throughout the story, Odysseus demonstrates his courage that ultimately allows him to survive. One of these moments was during his journey back to Ithaca, where he faces a race of man eating giants called the Cyclops. Odysseus originally stops his ship there to relish a feast while on his journey back to Ithaca, but while doing so, out of curiosity explores the island. Soon, he finds a deserted house and decides to wait of the owner. The owner was unknowingly one the Cyclops, named Polyphemus.
Odysseus went through a lot of adventures. And through good and bad time he almost always is getting out of the situation. Through all the adventures he showed an “Epic Hero Trait” and that is clever. He always makes a plan or decides something important. He got through the Sirens, Scylla, Charybdis, and now even his own home.
