After setting sail we see a case of Odysseus 's enemy the god of the sea Poseidon return and disrupt the journey by producing a storm that nearly kills him. However, we see two allies come to aid one being goddess Ino who gives Odysseus a veil that will keep him safe as well Athena who rescues him from the jagged rocks. In conclusion this book five of the Oddessy we see a prime example of a hero who in the special world, encounters tests, allies, and enemies.
Odysseus Odysseus is able to show Alkinoos how loyal he is by expressing his faithfulness to his wife and town. His goal is to convince Alkinoos that he will be loyal to the people of Skeria if he is granted a ship to send him to Ithica. When Odysseus is telling the Phiakins about his journey, he says, “...I have long been detained by Kalypso, loveliest of all goddesses, who held me in her smooth caves, to be her heart’s delight, as Kirke do Aiaia, the enchantress, desired me, and detained me in her hall. But in my heart I never gave consent.
The Odyssey, Trojan War hero Odysseus exhibits perseverance in the ten years of war and leads his men on the long journey home. Odysseus has to endure the frustrations of the war and the negligence that the gods show to him in his most desperate times. The pain he goes through exhibits his love for the special ones in his life, and it gives him the strength to make it home. Odysseus is challenged during the ten year war, but he will not give up, which proves how he is a true hero. The hero shows how he is a true hero through his actions and not his words.
Percy and Odysseus both assume leadership positions during their respective quests, which is apparent when the Greek heroes and their companions encounter the Lotus Eaters. In Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, Percy and his comrades set foot into the Lotus Casino, created by the Lotus Eaters, to provoke the intention of those who wander in to be persuaded into never wanting to leave. In the story The Odyssey, the main character, Odysseus, like everyone else, shows both good and bad qualities within his personality. Throughout his adventures, Odysseus has shown courage, curiosity, and willpower, as cited in the following passages. Odysseus repeatedly demonstrates courage throughout the story, like when he confronts the witch Circe and her hound of hungry animals. For example, this quote: “In the wild wood they found an open glade, around a smooth stone house—the hall of Circe—and wolves and mountain lions lay there, mild in their soft spell, fed on their drug of evil. None would attack (Homer, 911).”
Poseidon Endangering Odysseus Throughout homer’s epic poem, the Odyssey, the main character, Odysseus, goes through many physical and mental challenges and hardships. One of the greatest challenges that Odysseus overcame to get home was the wrath of Poseidon. Throughout the whole epic poem, most problems Odysseus faced can be traced back to Poseidon.
In the epic story the Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus is returning from the Trojan war, and on his way home he finds many obstacles ahead of him. Odysseus is the ruler of Ithaca and he is trying to return home to his land. Many creatures try and stop him from achieving his goal of returning home, but he and his crew have to push through and get home. Odysseus portrays bravery and courage leading his crew through these tough challenges. Odysseus heroically leads his crew and himself through dangerous obstacles, but also foolishly endangers them during the journey home.

Also risking his life for the safety of his crew. For instance, Odysseus faces the Cyclops Polyphemus, travels to the Underworld, overcomes the temptation of the Sirens(singers), outmaneuvers the monsters Scylla(underwater monster) and Charybdis(sea monster), and leaves behind the beautiful Calypso(nymph). All these feats required a great amount of bravery and skill, two traits Odysseus was honored for in antiquity.
The odyssey, an epic told by Homer in ancient greece, has many major themes following odysseus’s adventures. While Odysseus is sentenced to never return home after the Trojan War. He is overcoming challenges to return home to his wife penelope and his son Telemachus. Throughout the story major themes of loyalty, hospitality and vengeance are hidden within the plot. The story continues to show his heroic side with three major traits.
One way that shows Odysseus being an epic hero, is when he takes part in a more than one year journey. In the end, Odysseus participates in a twenty year epic journey. That is several more years than what is required to become an epic hero. He encounters several challenges along the way. Several times Odysseus shows contempt towards the mystical creatures that he has to fight against.
Thesis:In Sophocles play ‘Oedipus the king’,Oedipus is an example of a tragic hero because he changed from a hero at the beginning of the play into a tragic hero by the end by experiencing power,tragic flow,downfall and death. Oedipus changes into a person no can believe of,because in the beginning he was a hero for the city of thebes by solving a riddle to defeat the monster that was killing and taking over thebes. Claim:Before the play Oedipus defeats sphinx and becomes a powerful king,At the beginning of the play people rely on Oedipus’s power and help. Data:For example the priest says “Oedipus greatest in all men’s eyes We pray,find some strength again and rescue or city”. Warrant:From this quote readers can see that how empowered oedipus feels like and how people in thebes rely on him,Clearly this scene represents the power stage of the tragic hero.
Throughout the story, Odysseus demonstrates his courage that ultimately allows him to survive. One of these moments was during his journey back to Ithaca, where he faces a race of man eating giants called the Cyclops. Odysseus originally stops his ship there to relish a feast while on his journey back to Ithaca, but while doing so, out of curiosity explores the island. Soon, he finds a deserted house and decides to wait of the owner. The owner was unknowingly one the Cyclops, named Polyphemus.
The Greek god Poseidon was an important character in the movie The Odyssey, Poseidon was the god of the sea,earthquakes and horses. In the movie the Odyssey, Poseidon allowed Odysseus and his men to sail across his ocean. Poseidon was helped Odysseus and his men fight the Trojan War because they built the Trojan horse to represent Poseidon, until Odysseus was ungrateful of Poseidon helping them win the Trojan War, so Poseidon wants to show him a lesson; no man is capable of doing things without the gods. Not only was Odysseus ungrateful about him helping them win in the Trojan war
Poseidon, Apollo, Athena, Zeus, and Hermes are all Greek Gods that appear in the epic poem The Odyssey by Homer. These gods all play a significant role in The Odyssey by both helping and hindering Odysseus on his 10-year journey home. Homer illustrates the theme of divine intervention in The Odyssey using Poseidon’s wrath, Athena’s providence, and Hermes’ guidance. Poseidon is one of the main gods that appears throughout The Odyssey, Homer shows Poseidon's divine intervention through his wrath on Odysseus during his journey home.

Homer's epic, The Odyssey is the perfect novel to demonstrate the struggle/ initiation stage of the monomyth. The main character in the story, Odysseus, meets his road of trials many times during the story .He is faced with many creatures that he later to feed such as Polyphemus the Cyclops and then the Laestergonians, the gigantic sea monsters. he is also constantly tested by Poseidon, who makes the seas perilous every time Odysseus and his men set off .He has his meeting with the goddess when he meets Athena after Poseidon destroyed Odysseus's man and his
