Odysseus is Like Many Things Today! In the epic poem The Odyssey was written by Homer, which was a poet that is retelling the story of Odysseus’ journey, it was translated by Robert Fitzgerald. The Odyssey is about many difficult things odysseus had to go through to get back home to his wife and son. Odysseus won the Trojan war and is known as a king to Ithaca which is where he live. The Odyssey is relevant to today because Odysseus is like soldier, a police, he has also had things happen to him and make them change directions just like people today, and how many people today are getting divorced, he is strong and determined to finish his job and get back home to Ithaca. One way that the stories of Odysseus is relevant today is because his story is about what he had to go through to get home. Odysseus either had to listen to the Sirens or go through the sharp mountains to get home, and he had to pick one or the other. Today in life a lot of people have things that happen to them, like some people from fighting get PTSD and some people get paralyzed, and that makes them change directions and make then go somewhere they never would have thought to go. In the Odyssey the goal of getting home is more important to the development of Odysseus's character. He learns something important while on his journey that makes him a more fully developed character. He learns about the value of family. After the Trojan war, Odysseus understands that he can now go back home to his family.

He sees many great wonders during his journeys, but he continues to desire for his kingdom of Ithaca. An example is after the Trojan war ended, Odysseus and his men's struggles to come home from encountering with Cyclops.
