Imagine a world where you are a tiny speck in an infinite universe, or to have the power of a god. hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Two people that are known as heroes are Odysseus from “The Odyssey”, by Homer, and Kirk from “Star Trek”, directed by Justin Lin. Odysseus may have inspired the hearts of many ancient people, but Kirk inspires modern people even more.
You’ve seen it everywhere; books, movies, t.v shows, they all have got it. But what exactly for all intents and purposes is “it”? “It” is the Elements of the Archetypal Hero. This concept was actually theorized by Joseph Campbell. From older classics such as The Odyssey written by Homer and newer classics such as George Lucas’s Star Wars: A New Hope, these elements can be seen being portrayed.
Leaders come in all shapes and sizes, however, what gives someone the title of a good or bad is decided by the decisions they make and how those decisions affect others. Odysseus led the squadron of soldiers in the trojan horse and is a hero of the Trojan War and the king of Ithaca. Consequently, this gives him experience when it comes acting in difficult situations. This experience should guide him to choose correctly when being put in a tight spot.
Odysseus, the great hero, does not make a physical appearance in the odyssey until the fifth book. The author may have done this for multiple reasons. One reason may have been to create such a suspense that keeps the readers interested in reading the book. Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, has been created into a smaller hero story, in the Odyssey, through how he encountered a journey to find his father. Sons of great heroes and gods were expected to take after their fathers, so Telemachus took on this journey as his father would have.
Even though people typically believe that the main hero of Homer’s the Odyssey is Odysseus himself, the true hero of the Odyssey is Penelope. Even though her entire story isn’t told in the epic poem, you can still tell that she went through struggles and trials just as her husband Odysseus did. Along with going through trials, she comes up with witty ideas in order to overcome them. She is very clever, and she also plans long-term. She is loyal to Odysseus and faithfully waits for his return.
I have heard many stories of the great Odysseus. His actions presumably heroic in the Trojan War as others call it. Though, my encounter with Odysseus changed my assumption of him from the day the mortal stepped into my land. He is no hero, but rather a coward full of greed and pure hubris.
Odysseus: A Hero The classic and epic story of Odysseus and his travels, titled The Odyssey, has touched humankind since it was first told in the eighth century. Over this time, people have debated endlessly about whether or not the main character could be classified as a typical hero. Odysseus did some things that could make him seem dishonest or unethical, but does that disqualify him from being a hero? Overall, the narrative portrays a character this is not inherently flawless, but he is an inspiration, as well as someone who can persevere through challenges, and is simply trying to do what is best for everyone, therefore embodying a quintessential hero.
An ancient Greek hero is often portrayed differently than a hero in modern society. An epic hero must face impossible challenges by using their extraordinary strength, with some help from the deities. Although a fatal flaw may delay their Return, their “rebirth” will help conclude the voyage. In Homer’s The Odyssey, Odysseus possesses the qualities of an epic hero during the Hero’s Journey through his cleverness in the Challenges, the change in his impulsive personality in the Transformation, and the help he receives from supernatural beings in the Return.
Odysseus is the protagonist of the epic poem by Homer, The Odyssey, known as the great epic hero, but how exactly do we know that Odysseus is an epic hero? One reason I believe that Odysseus is indeed an epic hero is that there were gods that were on Odysseus’ side and helping him on his way. Additionally, Odysseus experienced many exceptional adventures and hardship from his journey. Lastly, something epic heroes have that Odysseus shares in common is that he has beneficial characteristics such as confidence, courage, loyalty, and intelligence.
In both pieces, the main character undertakes a journey that teaches them about who they are, what they’re worth, and what they are capable of. In the Odyssey, Odysseus proved himself as a strong and great leader. Whilst on his journey back home, he comes across several different obstacles that he has to battle, face to face with them. In the end he defeats these challenges and reaches his ultimate goal, returning home. Similarly in the poem
