In many ways, Candy’s dog plays a significant role in foreshadowing Lennie’s death and the manner of the death itself. Certainly, George has taken responsibly of killing Lennie himself after Candy tells him, “I ought to of shot that dog myself, George. I shouldn’t ought to of let no stranger shoot my dog.” Candy and his dog lead a parallel relationship to that of George and Lennie. Alike Candy’s dog, Lennie depends wholly on George to take care of him. Vice versa, Candy alike George values his old dog not because of its usefulness but as a constant companion, someone who is devoted and loyal to him.

In Of Mice and Men, George is one of the characters who lost hope to his friend Lennie, through the actions/troubles Lennie had made. It is also shown in the book with other character 's actions. George is Lennie 's best friend who lost hope on Lennie because Lennie keep on getting in trouble. Lennie is a big, muscular man, but he is also unintelligent and irresponsible. He always gets in trouble because he likes to pet soft things, and when he do, he can 't stop petting it.

Moreover, Magwitch also very important to Pip’s growth, development and transformation because he has changed Pip’s character from ungrateful and unsymphatize person to become a grateful and symphatize person at the end of the chapter. Pip becomes ungrateful because he cannot accept that Magwitch is actually his benefactor and not Miss Havisham. He hated Magwitch even though that man has done so much for him. Pip said, “I know nothing of his life. It has almost made me mad to sit here of a night and see him before me, so bound up with my fortunes and misfortunes, and yet so unknown to me, except as the miserable wretch who terrified me two days in my childhood.” From this point, Pip just only looked at the past time when Magwitch threatened him and not the present time when Magwitch has brought good fortune to his life and made him become a gentleman.
