Sharon Olds begins portraying vivid images into the readers mind from the first few lines. She begins the poem with “I see them standing at the formal gates of their colleges”, this shows that her parents come from a privileged background, because they were able to afford to go to university in 1937. Then she brings the readers focus to her father walking out of the college she uses very vivid imagery to describe this “the red tiles glinting like bent plates of blood” the use of the word blood in this early line gives the reader a hint of what happens later on. The use of the word blood also gives an insight of the authors attitude, because it has a negative connotation, blood is a frequently used term to describe forms of injury and pain
The entire faculty Senate of a Christian college in Massachusetts has stepped down after a pro-LGBT professor was denied a promotion over her criticism of the school’s policies on homosexual behavior. Gordon College implements a Life and Conduct Statement which prohibits any sexual activity --- including those between individuals of the same sex --- outside of marriage. The school also adheres to the biblical teaching on marriage, Christian News details. Margaret DeWeese-Boyd, who works as an assistant professor of sociology at the Christian college, recently complained to the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination that she was denied a promotion because she has been speaking against the school’s policy in the last four years. She has also hosted training sessions and events focusing on homosexual rights.

The 6-foot-tall granite monument of Ten Commandments was moved from the Capitol grounds after the state Supreme Court ordered its removal, citing an article of constitution which prohibits the use of state funds for endorsement of a religion. The voters will determine if the article can be abolished so that state funds could be directed to support religion. The privately funded monument was the authorized by state legislature in 2009, and was erected in 2012.

I first heard of the Trailblazer Collegiate Academy during my freshman year enrollment. The idea of taking college classes at a community college while still in high school was appealing to me because my current coursework took no effort to complete and I wanted a challenge. Once I was a sophomore, I began looking into it more seriously. If I wanted to apply for the Academy, I had a short window of time to do so. After discussing it with my counselor I learned that my classes I took with the community college would factor into my GPA at the high school level.
