China is facing the aging population, industrialization, urbanization and modernization. As the biggest generations, what is the changing situation that old people have? The topic is chosen because the same curiousness. The report would find out changing situations that old people have in China. Data and investigation are used as supporting details. The average number of family, the number of old people live alone, reasons that they choose to live alone, and the welfare institution to homeless old people were displayed in following content. The change of family scales and reasons that old people choose to live alone are regarded as the most important reason. Old people in China play a also important role in families because of the traditional Chinese ethic that we respect old people and cherish the young. Thus it is a tradition and honor for grandparents to live with their children, instead of financially independent. However, a general separation between young and old seems like a new trend. The topic that was chosen by our group is ‘Old People in China’ because our group cares about the aging population of China. Exploring the changing situation of this generation in China in the twenty first century was the purpose of this report. This aspect was chosen because that it is a new and especially growing tendency in China that many old people live alone without children at home. According to the survey, the proportions of families in China where parents live without their children are decreasing. The reasons for this changing situation are various. For old people who have no family that they can rely on, the collective economic organizations in rural areas will implement five guarantees for them. They are: guarantee eating, wearing, living, medical service and burying, or support them in rural nursing home. In urban area, they would be relieved by government or be supported by social welfare institute. There are two supporting ways: one is letting old people live in nursing house, which called centralized support; the other is letting them continue to live in family of relatives.
