Oliver Cromwell was one of the main commanders leading the Parliamentarian forces against the Royalist forces during the English Civil War (22 August 1642 – 3 September 1651). He started his career as a lowly cavalry troop commander but through his tactical prowess, he was able to rise through the ranks until he became the commander of the New Model Army. At the Battle of Naseby, Cromwell led his wing with remarkable skill, routing the Royalist cavaliers and helping to thoroughly smash the remains of the Royalist army which led to their eventual surrender at Oxford in June of 1646.
