2.1 Introduction
Open distance learning has become the most conventional way in which correspondence education is conducted, giving students the opportunity to learn new skills, gain insight and knowledge in certain fields (e.g. Research methodology module), without physically attending the conventional form of higher education. Created in the 19th century and remaining in the first half of the 20th century’s educational system (Krishnan, 2012). Open distance education (ODE) refers to students who based on time; place and learning pace constraints are restricted from attending higher education on a full time basis (Fung & Carr, 2000). It is a way of students’ and higher educational intuitions having contact, making the learning process efficient as possible. Student support services includes the use of vital elements such as feedback from tutorial letters, discussion forums, e-tutoring sessions, contact session with peers as well as tutors, study guides, CD’s and DVD’s (Krishanan, 2012). Such elements of student support assits open distance learning students’, making it easier to face challenges of, lack of motivation, difficluty in understanding module content, completion of assignmets and exam preperation (Dzakiria, 2005). It is a variable Identified as the dependent variable to this topic, as the treatment of students experiences (undergraduates and postgraduates) affects the outcome of how students support at a open distance educational institution is viewed, as a result the overall view of student support, could be either a positive experience or a negative experience, specifically in the research methodology module at an open distance learning
