When thinking about a better school, many things need to go into consideration. One of the most important things to think about is the way the school system incorporates how its students learn. One of the most popular learning techniques used would be Classical Conditioning. Classical Conditioning is a learning process that occurs when two stimuli are repeatedly paired; a response that is first triggered by the second stimulus but over time it is triggered by the first. In Military Schools, this concept of Classical Conditioning is used for promotions. In the Military, promotions equal more money. Operant Conditioning is a process of behavior modification in which someone is encouraged to behave in a desired manner through positive or negative reinforcement, and/or positive or negative punishment. Therefore, that someone comes to associate the pleasure or displeasure of the reinforcement or punishment with the behavior. Operant Conditioning is a popular learning style in Secondary Schools. An example of Operant Conditioning in secondary schools would be answering “questions during class discussions: each time a student answers a question(operant), the teacher praises(reinforces) the behavior… in terms of motivation: the likely hood of the student answering questions (the motivation) is increasing because of the teachers praise (motivator)”(Operant conditioning as a way of motivating). This is important to students because they tend to pay more attention in class when there is some kind of reward, praise and reinforcement. When paying attention, students answer questions which can help them become more knowledgeable of the subject. Overall with operant conditioning comes better grades. Secondary schooling is anything between elementary and college. Right now I would consider to be in secondary schooling. This theory explains how people learn new behaviors, values, and attitude by observing others. In the flipped classroom, a style of teaching where instructions are done online and outside of the classroom, and homework is done in the classroom. According to PMC, the Flipped Classroom “provided more opportunities for students to engage in critical thinking… and more efficiently interact with and learn from their peers”(Flipping for success). The increase of interaction between peers in the classroom signifies the Social Learning Theory by demonstrating that students within the flipped classroom environment have to rely on their peers to learn the information being taught. Therefore, with the increase of student interaction in a flipped classroom comes observing your peers and learning new behaviors, values and even different ways people think of situations and learn. This kind of schooling is important for students because it gives them an opportunity to learn a certain piece of material from peers and rely on each other which can give a sense of importance in one's life. I would choose this kind of learning because I think it is important to interact more with each other and I think it’s a really cool style of learning.
