“My philosophy is that not only are you responsible for your life but doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment (Bluerock, Grace). A woman whose childhood worth was oppressed but, prominent authoritative value was worth multi-billion dollars. Oprah’s life was always an uphill battle that started with a brutal childhood, breaking through from the past, and finally the endeavor to change her fate. Oprah Winfrey experienced a difficult upbringing but overcame her past and is now one of the most influential females in American society.
January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi Oprah Winfrey was born to Vernon Winfrey and Vernita Lee. Even though Oprah is a very wealthy women today, she grew up very poor in an impoverished community raised by her grandmother. At a young age her teenage mother abandoned Oprah therefore her grandmother had to step in (“Oprah Winfrey.” Biography.com). While being raised by her grandmother, Oprah was introduced to God and taught how to read and write. Oprah became very involved in church with reading scriptures and even gave her first speech at an Easter Program ("Oprah Winfrey." Contemporary). Because of the speeches she gave, she then was given the nickname “The Little Speaker.” What she did not know was that the first speech she gave was the first of many ahead of her in the future. Once Oprah turned six she went to live with her mother who didn’t have not make much time for (“Oprah Winfrey.” Biography.com).
