If you are mildly anxious about getting dental work, this may be the option for you. It is safe for patients of all ages because it wears off quickly and is easily adjusted mid-procedure. Oral Conscious Sedation Oral conscious sedation is a medication that is ingested before the appointment to create a sense of relaxation. The medication creates a higher level of sedation that allows you to be aware of what is happening during the procedure, but also extremely relaxed and even groggy. You may or may not remember much of the procedure once the medication wears off. When you use this type of sedation, you will need a friend or family member to drive you to and from the appointment. We use oral conscious sedation for patients who are extremely nervous or fearful or who are undergoing a long or complicated procedure.
