In 1993, twenty-four year old Piper Kerman flew to Belgium with a suitcase full of money that would be passed off to a West African drug lord. After that happened Kerman left the business and decided to turn herself in. In February of 2004, Kerman was named part of an international drug ring, and she was incarcerated at the age of thirty four. Sentenced to a year at a minimum security women's prison, Kerman set out to blend in the best she could to make her way through her sentence without causing any trouble. During her time Piper met people of all races, ages, religions, and walks of life. After she was released Kerman decided to compose a book about the people that she met in prison, the lessons that they taught her, and how they affected her outlook on life. After Piper got released she wanted to go right away and be with to the people who mean the most to her, her family and friends. Her family and friends were given a plethora of details about what she did that made her want to turn herself in. She was new on the outside and inside. Those prison walls were no longer confining her to be a certain person. On the day Piper got released she said that when she was the airport about to meet up with Larry she “turned and started walking briskly ahead of him. Ten yards farther, and I saw Larry, standing in front of the MCC, talking on his phone, until her turned and saw me. And then I was running, as fast as I could. No one could stop me” (295). This is an excellent statement that Piper made to show how she was excited to get her life back to normal. A new kind of normal, one full of paperwork and parole checkins. But it was her life. In Piper Kerman’s novel, Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women 's Prison, the reader gets to unravel the failed, upturned life of a Ms. Piper Kerman, who ended up in prison for a year for smuggling money a gang earned from selling drugs into Europe. Piper was a graduate from Smith college, but felt her life remained jaded and wanted some adventure in it, which lead her to meet a woman named Nora. She promised Piper that she would have her by her side for her trip all over the globe. Nora worked as an African drug dealer that made cargos of money.
In chapter eight of Orange is the New Black, Piper Kerman further explains what her life was like in prison. A woman named Morena arrives at the prison from the Federal Correctional Institution, who Piper refers to as “Crazy Eyes.” Morena attempts to befriend Piper, but Crazy Eyes reveals that she wants a relationship with her. Piper, being already married, kindly declines the offer. One of her friends named Carlotta explains that she is excited to get married so she can make other women jealous of her.
Orange is the New Black is an American comedy-drama series that takes place in FCI Danbury, a minimum-security prison. The series started with a 13-episode season, July 11th 2013 on Netflix. The second season had 13 episodes. The third season, 13. On April 15, 2015, the series allegedly producing a fourth season, scheduled to premiere in 2016.
When you talk about the greatest films of all time you have to mention The Shawshank Redemption. This film is at the top of IMDB’s top 250 list, ranking in at number one above films like The Dark Knight and the all time classic The Godfather. This movie is so appealing in so many ways, in my opinion it is ranked number one because of the fact that it hits the Christian aspect, has a character you can feel for and of course has a satisfying ending. In the world right now, there is still inequality for all. People are criticized everyday because of how they look, speak, dress, act, etc. In America, although there is people that are changing, there with always be that small group of people that won’t change their views on what they believe is right and wrong in our society. You can also see this in the book, To Kill A Mockingbird, written by author, Harper Lee. All throughout the novel, you can see how white people are superior to the African Americans that live in the same town.

2. Literature review Orange Is the New Black sets upon women in prison and centres on the flashbacks and experiences exposing their lives. The television series features issues for example sexuality, race, ethnicity. It centres on the life and experiences of the main character: Piper Chapman and the women she is familiarised with while within carceral spaces. The literature that I have used helps to explain the background to my research question.
Wrapped In Lace was beautiful, sexy and gratifying. Drew and Piper was smoking hot together. Their love for each other was purely sweet and satisfying. I love love this book so much. This is by far Author Prescott Lane’s best work yet.

Imagine living in a society that restricts women from expressing themselves and acting as freely as they want. A society that places pressure on women to play the role of what women are supposed to be, which is the “mother figure or caretaker. ” Till this day society still view women at an ever low stature compared to men. Women are always restricted as to how they are allowed to express themselves as individuals.

Alice Walker was discovering religion at the time of this book, she believed that the color purple held both of these meanings. “If it is true that we run from that chases us, then The Color Purple (this color that is always a surprise but is everywhere in nature) is the book that ran me down,” (Alice Walker).
The memory of walking through the green gates into school with my heart pounding loud is still fresh in my head. I struggled to take a step forward without being anxious or wondering if I would be quizzed about my peculiarity again. Every day was a battle where I fought to be accepted and awaited an opportunity to take center stage .I felt the slow sinking of my self-esteem when I was the last one to be chosen during gym class. I tried to tell myself that I am gifted and there is no reason to shed tears, but I failed each time. Who would take a girl with multicolored splints on her feet seriously?
