People, like Amanda Collins, argue that with guns on campus students will be able to stop criminal activates such as rape. Ms. Collins, a survivor of rape, states that if students were allowed to carry a gun, her own incident and “two other rapes would have been prevented and three young lives would have been saved.” I agree that in her situation guns may have helped her; however, even in her situation having a gun is not the best defensive approach. These criminals, who avoid strict law enforcement while committing these crimes, will also find a way to prevent the victim from using their gun while attacking them. This situation will leave the victims just as helpless.
Teachers Carrying Guns By:Mark Roessner So far there have been shootings across the US in schools. To address the problem, President Trump has come out with a few ideas and suggestions that will hopefully preserve children safety at schools. Those ideas are not without their critics, pros and cons. Trump listened to a couple victims and parents of victims tell their mournful story and came out with a suggestion.
If a teacher had a gun in your class how would you feel? What if a student gets hold of the weapon, how would you feel? Even if the student means no harm and makes a joke, it’s still a danger towards students. You would feel stressed or scared. After the school shooting in Florida, President Trump made a speech stating teachers should be armed in classrooms because they could shoot an armed intruder and protect their students.
“Every Teacher in America Should Have a Gun” by Steve Siebold delivers the message about why teachers should be armed with guns. Primarily he thinks that shooters will be less motivated to try to attack a school that is able to defend itself against the gunman. He also goes on to say that “Every second counts in a school shooting. Calling 911 and waiting for police to arrive isn’t good enough.” He gives us the idea that we need to take action against these shooters and potentially end school shootings once and for all.
Channeling? (Ivins)”. Ivins provides multiple argument to support her reasoning, on gun control and how she believes in other forms of safety. First point she makes is “In the first place, you have catch up with
Emmaline Hughes Mrs. Toews English 1 4 Oct. 2015 Are guns really the safest option? Are my children safe when I send them off to school? This question is one of the many that parents are asking themselves as the new law in some states is being passed about teachers carrying firearms in their classrooms. There are definitely two sides to the argument of teachers carrying weapons in the school. One side of the argument is yes, teachers should be armed at all times.
Many people from both the Republican and Democratic parties favor the idea of placing a ban on assault weapons and creating a new federal database to monitor gun sales as well as having background checks for private and gun show sales (Struyk, 1). Other possible safety measures include every school having a professional crisis team that can review their existing policies, staff members who question every visitor who comes into the school, constant locked doors, and more frequent safety drills (Gumbrecht, 1). Since the Columbine shooting of 1999, even architectural designs have been implemented to ensure school safety. Schools that have been built since then try to have single, prominent entryways, reduced landscaping which means fewer places for the shooter to hide, restrooms away from entrances, and mechanical and electrical systems away from easy access points (Gumbrecht, 2). Construction companies have been trying to create something to make it so that the accident is contained, whether it be a shooting or an explosion (Gumbrecht, 2).
Another example of a people not handling guns properly would be when Rick Brown, Southern Utah University’s police chief, was notified by a teacher that a loaded clip had fallen out of a student’s backpack. Students, staff, professors, etc. may be in danger whenever someone carries a gun near them. A person with a mental illness can be dangerous to others. Everybody seems normal and sane until he pulls out a gun to threaten or shoot others. In the article “Texas Lawmakers Pass a Bill Allowing Guns at Colleges” it states that professors worry when they intend to have a word with a student that is not passing the class and that student is carrying a concealed
There is an old saying that “guns do not kill people, people kill people’’ which means that shooters need to be stopped. However, the most effective way to combat deadly violence in school is to restrict access to guns. Furthermore, in order to decrease the number of mass shootings, Americans have to tackle the issue of gun control and what should be the legal requirements for citizens to bear arms.
There would be a huge debate about the Second Amendment and opponents will argue about how the Second Amendment also referred to individuals in America and how the amendment protects individual gun ownership. Chairperson of Revolution PAC, Lawrence Hunter, stated, "The Founders understood that the right to bear laws is as primary and as essential to maintaining liberty. The rights of free speech, a free press, freedom of religion and the other protections against government encroachments on liberty described in the Bill of Rights.” Supporters might argue and state how its original meaning was intended to protect the militia, but opponents believe otherwise. Opponents of more female protection might say that Gun control laws do not deter crime; gun ownership deters crime.

Mental illness significantly affects many around the world. In fact, about four-hundred and fifty million people worldwide suffer from one or more of the different known mental illnesses. That is one in every four people. Severe mental health issues such as severe anxiety disorder, antisocial personality disorder, schizophrenia, or sensory perception disorder are illnesses which are common among the people responsible for the numerous mass shootings in America. Many believe the possession of firearms in the hands of the mentally ill are the real cause of mass shootings.
Occasionally, the peers of the officers who were involved in fatal shootings were reported to have exacerbated an already stressful situation. In several instances, it was reported that the peers did not treat their colleagues in the same manner as before the shooting incident. The perception was that these peers would often isolate or ignore the officer. In other cases, the perception was that the peers would provide inappropriate gestures of
Hi, Bobbi I enjoyed reading your post it was very informative. Unfortunately, unintentional shootings are committed by children and teenagers too often. Safety regulation keeps children from accessing legal firearms. The law has been set to ensure the safety of children, By storing ammunition and firearms separately in a locked cabinet, keeping guns unloaded, and ensuring that both are safely out of reach from children. Nearly all firearm accidents in the home can be prevented when gun are stored properly (Kumar 2014).
