Farmers Preference on Organic Farming over Inorganic Farming
Agricultural farming and agriculture food safety. Organic farming is known for its use of bio-chemicals which means the use of chemical-free products for pest control and fertilizer application. This practice helps preserve the fertility of the soil and doesn’t cause any hazardous effects to the environment. Since organic farming is a chemical-free farming practice, it is more efficient for the farmers and consumers to practice. In fertilizer application, the main purposes and advantages of composting are waste stabilization, pathogen inactivation, nutrient and land reclamation, and sludge drying. Through theses processes, it can help maintain nutrient in the soil rather than destroying

Through the use of organic fertilizers such as cow manure, chicken dang and swine manure, soil elements like nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, calcium, magnesium, copper, manganese, iron, zinc and boron can be provided to sustain the nutrient requirement of the crops. Organic farming also helps fight global warming. Most organic farming products are distributed locally. Its production does not require machine which consequently reduces carbon dioxide emissions which are believed to be one of the causes of global warming in the Philippines. The fact alone that organic farming methods strictly forbid the use of all synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals that inorganic farmers apply is enough to prove that organic farming is a method of farming that is environmental friendly than inorganic farming methods.
Organic crop production farming avoids the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. As such, emphasis is placed on long-term planning based on information regarding crop’s pest life cycles, soil conditioning, extensive evaluation of ecological relationships, field conditions, and options for management of variables available in a given farm. Organic farming is also accused of using more land to produce equal amount of food. This may be true but unlike inorganic farming, organic farming is not a disturbance to the mother earth. It actually supports it rather than destroying it.
An organically produced product contributes better to the health of both farmers and consumers because of the avoidance of use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemically-based technology used that has been applied to the crops.
The effects of using synthetic fertilizers and pesticides can result into skin disease, reshaping of the bone structure of the hands and feet, weakened lungs and other illness caused by the chemicals present in the synthetic fertilizers and pesticides that is harmful to both humans and the environment. The difference between farmers who practice organic farming and inorganic farming is that the farmers who practice organic farming is free from getting ill from the diseases or the side effects caused by the synthetic pesticides used by the farmers who practice inorganic
There is always opposition to pesticides because of the harm that it can cause on the environment and the animals alike. Pesticides though have saved a lot of hard work for farmers over the past couple of decades because it does all the dirty work, for example, the killing of weeds and other pests. Pesticides have also saved a lot of money for farmers by preventing pests from damaging crops or taking the nutrients and water supply away from crops. (Whitford, 7) In the future we need to start to find less toxic ways to prevent pests from attacking the crops and vegetation. This would prevent a lot of the other costs associated with pesticides for example, health costs for farmers that are exposed to the toxic chemicals or the killing of the habitats in the surrounding areas.
If everything went completely organic, there would be no possible way to sustain our growing society. A farmer from the film, Food Inc., which is a documentary on the take-over of chemically processed foods in the grocery stores today, had a similar exaggerated view to William Speed: “We have allowed ourselves to become so disconnected and ignorant about something that is as intimate as the food that we eat.” (Food Inc.) To an extent, as a people, America has lost
I originally thought about the word organic as fruits and vegetables picked freshly from the branches of a tree and packaged into stores and chickens wandering large fields, I realize that it is not that simple. Michael Pollan traced some of his organic purchases back to their sources and discovers that there are organic feedlots, organic dairy cows whose lives are not any nicer than the conventional, and organic “free-range” chickens whose only access to the outside world is a small door in their shed, which is only open for about two weeks. “The organic movement, as it was once called, has come a remarkably long way in the last thirty years, to the point where it now looks considerably less like a movement than a big business” (Pollan 138). My thoughts now on organic foods at supermarkets such as Wegmans and Walmart is that the animals aren’t treated as great as conventional foods. I’ve realized that the extra cost of organic that I pay is largely because of the transportation.
The book, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, was written by Michael Pollan and describes a man’s interest in discovering where certain foods truly come from and explain why the humans of today struggle to find something to eat compared to the humans of the past. Pollan embarks on four separate quests having each serve a purpose to give him insight on America’s dynamic and complexed reception of food. In his first quest, Pollan watches a cow and sees its development up until it gets slaughtered. This experience reflects on commercial farming and tries to show animal development in relation to their feed.
I know a lot of people don 't know how to farm nor do they want to. But a lot of people forget on caring about where and how they got their produce as long as it is on the market for them to feed themselves or their families. What they don 't know is more and more these days the animals are living in horrible factories their whole lives. Which means they aren 't being treated wrong. They are neglected with the proper food and are being drugged with medications like steroids.
Farmer’s markets allow families to experience the culture and passions of local merchants, farmers, and friends through freshly produced foods. In these communities, people buy nutritious goods difficult to find in their local grocery stores. For the past decade, the locavore movement has influenced and convinced many people to eat locally grown products as much as possible because they claim it preserves the environment. However, many people disagree with this movement stating even though it supports local farmers, it hurts farmers in other places. They also say it ignores economies of scale involving good miles.
Catherine Badgley, the author of the article “Can Organic Food Feed the World?” wrote about the benefits of eating organic. One of the topics she discussed was that farmers make more money selling organic crops vs conventional crops. Catherine said “Organic foods may cost more than conventionally grown, but they’re more profitable for farmers... cost ratios are 20% to 24% higher for the same foods produce by conventional methods according to scientists from the Washington State University. ”(COFFtW)
First of all, Pollan states just because it says it's organic doesn't mean it really is. If you buy an “organic” salad at your local grocery store, farmers will still use pesticides to keep bugs away and other animals. The chemicals they use are all natural, but it's not truly organic if you use pesticides or other chemicals. In The Omnivore’s Dilemma Pollan says, “Instead of toxic pesticides, crops are sprayed with natural substances, like BT, a pesticide made from a common soil bacteria” (140.) This quote proves that big organic industrial companies use pesticides to help produce grow.
Farmers need to know pH levels, phosphorus levels, and nitrogen levels in order to grow plants most efficiently. This experiment shows them how dirt can be created through composting, leading to better plants. Government can use this experiment to create a new recycling system: a composting system. This will decrease landfills, and increase land for civilization to prosper. Most everyday people should use this experiment to help improve their gardens, and reduce trash they make.
Many people choose to eat only organic because it’s said to be healthier but when compared to non-organic food the difference is slim. Regardless people continue to buy organic products. People get emotionally connected to
According to a State of Science Review done in 2008, organic food is more nutritious than inorganic as there are no chemicals or additives going into your body. This means less risk of disease and illness and overall better health, which will be cheaper in the long run as you will save money on health care costs. People with illnesses like Cancer and diabetes, claim that there is a definite improvement in their health after changing their diet to organic
What is also speaking for consumption of organic food is the fact that this kind of foods does not contain genetically modified organisms, which is nowadays an important concern for many people who would like to stay healthy for longer. The organic food appeared as a result of Green
You can decrease it it but not stop it. In my opinion i don’t like organic foods because the only thing. I see i unnecessary things. We may not agree but i don’t like organic foods. People have survived long enough.
Introduction: “Sustainable agriculture is the efficient production of safe high quality agricultural products, in a way that protects and improves the natural environment the social and economic conditions of farmers their employees and local communities and safe guard the health and welfare of all farmed species“ There are three main principles of sustainable agriculture, the three principles are: 1. Economic sustainability 2. Environmental sustainability 3. Social sustainability With the human population continuing to rise, it is vital that the agricultural industry becomes more sustainable to meet the needs of the growing population. One of the impacts of this growing population is an increase in land usage for settlement purposes.
Fertilizers remove the nutrients of the soil damaging the soil and the local environment and after being mixed with the soil, gradually reduce the fertility of the soil. In the study of (Southland) using fertilizers consists of substances and chemicals like methane, carbon dioxide, ammonia, and nitrogen, the emission of which has contributed to a great extent in the quantity of greenhouse gases present in the environment. These facts are alarming and a serious step needs to be taken as soon as possible to avoid more severe consequences. This in turn is leading to global warming and weather changes. The use of fertilizers for growth and cultivation is keeping our stomach filled for now, but then if things keep on progressing the way they are, it won’t take long to see the times where there is lack of food, water, and health.
