Organizational development:
Organizational Development can be meant as a comprehensive strategy for organization improvement. Strategies are being formed to for restructuring & development of management of an organization.
A method for facilitating change & development in people in technology & organization’s process & structures
Characteristics:

Organizational Development is not designed to solve short term, temporary problems. It’s a long term approach meant to guide the organization to a higher level of functioning by improving the performance and satisfaction of organization members.

It demands considerable skills of analysis and observation as most of the problems are often expressed by organization members in ambiguous terms. Organizational Development program may turn out to be a self-defeating exercise if decisions were to be a self-defeating exercise if decisions were to be based on such general & vague information. Diagnosis should not be limited to a single problem. Important factors like attitudes, assumptions, available resources etc. must be taken into account in the diagnostic phase.
• Planning & Implementation :
After diagnosing the problem, the Organizational Development expert shifts his attention to the planning of change & implementing it. Organizational Development interventions come into picture here. Intervention is considered to be the action phase in Organizational Development process. It is a method of changing behavior through unstructured group interaction. Sensitivity training is sought to help individuals toward better relations with others.
