CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Background of Study In agriculture industry, the pesticides such as organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs), organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), pyrethriod and carbamate pesticides were introduced to control or kill a pest because of its high effectiveness against harmful insects and their low price (Wei et al. 2011). However, the development in this industrial sector has caused some effects that need to be taken care of. Lately, pollution issue of pesticides has been the most important issue, not only in Malaysia but also in other countries as well. As time goes by, the extensive utilization of pesticides cause the toxicity and the concentration of chemical are increased which cause serious risk to human, environment and food safety (Jiang et al, 2016). It can cause environmental damage and human health risks since they are lipophilic compounds with high resistance to degradation and long half-lives in humans. For people safety against contamination and potential negative health effects, some countries and international organizations have control the maximum residue limits (MRLs) for some OPPs in appointed edible foods. For example, the European Union has established MRLs for the OPPs in many vegetables and fruits in the range of 〖0.01–0.30 mg kg〗^(-1) (Jiang et al. 2016). According to Martins et al, (2013), the researchers are keen towards biodegradable and green analysis, they try to find the best way to extract these trace OPPs. …show more content…
