Applicants must have a Bachelors degree from an accredited 4-year university. At most schools paid hands on healthcare experience is required, usually around 2000 hours. This healthcare experience can come in fields such as CNA (certified nurses assistant), EMT (emergency medical technician), EKG technicians, registered nurses, phlebotomists, physical therapist, respiratory therapist, and ER technicians. During the presentation, I learned that occupational therapist in acute care are responsible for the patient's release, of when they are ready, where they will go, and what tools that patient has to take when going home. That the occupational therapist decides these things sometimes in a matter of twenty minutes. I still wonder about the process of splinting and how if an occupational therapist can have so many clients in a day, when do they have time to splint? How long does it take to give the patient their splint? Also, are there already people working to make new toiletry items?
Death: a reality that rarely crosses people 's mind, with a major exception being when one crosses the threshold of an operating room. The operating room holds a special terror for both patients and their family members. For the patients, they must face the possibility that they could fall into an eternal slumber, and for the family members, they must recognize the fact that their beloved has a chance of not surviving. It is even more agonizing when a new procedure like the anterior approach hip replacement fails to uphold its reputation: one as a new, innovated technique meant to improve the quality of life, not destroy it. The mortality rate for the anterior approach hip replacement is far too devastating considering the fact that the posterior
Similarly, it was important for the content of this paper, to interview a physician on how it would impact their specialty. The internet had valuable insight from anesthesiologists, general surgeons and emergency responders on how the Glass product may be useful in their lives. Fortunately, an orthopedic surgeon made himself available for an interview, and his insight was into his specialty was much appreciated. Dr. James L. Rushford, D.O., had previously head about the Google Glass product before, and heard about some of the advantages the product would bring to other specialties. Unfortunately, there has not been much in the way of its application discussed in orthopedics.

Senator Carper, Thank you for taking the time to meet with me. I am the student liaison to the American Occupational Therapy Association, (AOTA), for the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. I also am an active voter and representative of your Delaware constituency as I have lived in Delaware my entire life. In fact, I was on the Brandywine YMCA swim team with your son, Christopher. My time spent at the YMCA of Delaware peaked my interests to work with special need’s populations, leading me to the track of becoming an occupational therapist.

In the case study, it shows that the nurses did not treat the patient according to his/her needs. The nurses have failed to deliver an ongoing assessment of the pressure area, and this has resulted in harm to the patient. 2.1 Risk assessment form One of the tools not used to safeguard patient safety was the risk assessment form. When a patient is admitted to a hospital, risk assessment should be done at-least within 8 hours of admission and frequently continue throughout patients stay (ACSQHC, 2012). Risk assessments consist of Braden scale, which is used to provide a prediction of the patient’s risk of pressure areas outcome, based on causes for example mobility.

Environmental material such as sand, dust, and dirt can exacerbate skin in contact with the prosthetic and impeded the functionality of the individual. Specifically, for people with lower extremity amputations, some physical demanding jobs that require repeated climbing, pushing, and walking should be evaluated and altered as necessary. Consideration for the increased energy required to manipulate a prosthetic device may also be considered as part of the physical demands of the vocation. One final vocational consideration, that is also psychosocial, is that individuals with upper extremity amputations may have a greater need to consider the cosmetics of the prosthetic. Nevertheless, the specific tasks required of the job (e.g., heavy lifting) must also be considered (Falvo & Holland,
