25 years ago, two unsuspecting tourists saw a head and shoulders poking out of the frozen ground beneath them; at first it was thought to be an unlucky traveler who had gotten stuck in a snowstorm, but with further investigation, scientists revealed that this man, given the nickname Ötzi, was over five thousand years old. A theory of his death is Ötzi was out hunting after eating a very large meal, and was killed for his power in his clan.
To start off with, Ötzi’s caretaker Egarter had further examined Ötzi’s right hand, “He found a small cut running from the palm of the right hand, just below the index finger, over to the top side of the hand” (29). It had slight discoloration, which means that it had not been made after his death, for it had started to heal. This reveals that Ötzi had been confronted and attacked. Additionally, scientists uncovered that Ötzi had gone up the mountain, descended, and finally trekked back up the slope; this could signify that he had been approached, escaped by running up the mountain, believed he was safe so he started to descend, but then realized that he had not completely escaped his attackers, so he had escalated back up the mountain, and was then fatally shot.

“The Neolithic era was the transitional age when stone tools began to give way to metal. . . “ (9), having a tool made from copper was rare; unless one had high social status or great power. As stated in Death of The Iceman, people would fight over copper since it was so incredibly valued, so it would make sense if someone were to go as far as killing someone for something so valuable. Although Ötzi’s killer did not take his axe, he could have been next in line to be the leader, and all he had to do was kill
On July 7th 2011 69 year old Richard Oland was discovered in his canterbury Street office by his personal assistant. He was severally beaten repeatedly by a blunt object. Ambushed in the Alps Ötzi, a man of repute in his tribe, went up into the mountains above his home to seek counsel from the gods. On his return trip, Ötzi was ambushed. He shot some attackers, but one he faces hand-to-hand. Ötzi won his fight, but with it a terrible scar. His hand was wounded so that he could barely use it.
I believe that he was unwillingly sacrificed because, the Bruises on his body indicate that he was in some sort of fight or struggle, but it wasn't a flesh wound which means his murderers weren't trying to kill him, but to disable him so he won't resist toward his sacrifice. Of course there is the fatal shot to the back, but I believe that Ötzi escaped and had enough time to pack some things to survive including the copper axe (which he could have used as a weapon because his bow and arrows were broken or unfinished). Then he escaped into the mountains where he hoped to escape.
In the late 1700s James Ramsbottom investigated a death of a store owner who feels like a cold squirrel to touch, he uncovers a really old black spoon from the Egyptian years that an old Egyptian queen put a curse to give to the enmities to kill them without one drop of blood. If anyone that touches the spoon, Within 3 days they will perish to the ground. James ramsbottom didn't believe it was true. A million thoughts go through his last days wondering a curvy guppy in a peculiar newspaper said, "drowned accident, dead man suffered". On the left leg of the store owner he realizes some animal-like properties instead of human on him.
Archeology is the study of a human body analysis, which identifies many different characteristics detected through evidence of holism during the process of investigation of archeologists. To determine the life of the Iceman, also known as Otzi, would be to rely on his remains also found under the glacier, along with the discovery of his body, such as, a knife stone, arrows, copper axe and shoes of grass. At first glance these remains do not seem enough clues to determine anything about Otzi's life, but just studying the individual object like the copper axe shows he was probably a high dignity being in order to carry such equipment, which was used in the early stone age years for farming and hunting. Archaeologists also found arrows from Otzi's
In the article “Four Dead in O-hi-o” from The Pop History Dig, Jack Doyle an author and the publisher of the website gives insight on the historical significance of the song “Ohio”. On April 30, 1970, President Richard Nixon declared expansion of the Vietnam War by sending the American troops in to invade Cambodia. At this time, there was already controversy over the war, many Americans, especially the younger ones, despised the fact that the U.S. joined a war they had no business being a part of. The invasion of Cambodia infuriated many students and caused an uproar in protests all over the nation. On May 4, 1970, after 3 long days of protesting, four unarmed kids were shot by the National Guard at Kent State University.
“They struck others in the shoulders, and their arms were torn from their bodies. They wounded some in the thigh and some in the calf. They slashed others in the abdomen, and their entrails all spilled to the ground. Some attempted to run away, but their intestines dragged as they ran; they seemed to tangled their feet on their own entrails (pg 76).”
Conscience is the feeling inside one 's self that alerts them that something is wrong. This can sometimes be overpowered by stronger external forces such as a powerful authority figure, surrounding circumstances, or the belief that what they did was correct. Through, Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil, Hannah Arendt argues that for the first time the world has encountered a different kind of criminal- - one that blindly followed orders from superiors and was made to believe the anti-Semitic ideology, although it could have been any ideology. Similarly, in her work, A Human Being Died That Night, Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela claims that the actions of ordinary citizens could be influenced by surrounding practices and drive people
I remember the day. I remember the day I had to get braces. That day, I went to the orthodontist’s office with my parents and the process began. After 3 hours of irritation and pain in my mouth, I walked out of the doctor’s office with braces on my teeth and instructions of what not to eat. Every time I think about that day, I remember my parents.
In conclusion, it seems obvious that that there was foul play involved in the slaughter of Ötzi. The evidence also suggests that a fellow clansman was the killer. Further evidence was the copper axe, Ötzi’s symbol of status to be coveted, the similar arrowheads of Ötzi and his killer along with the skill of the archer, and the cave art depicting the dirty deed. Ötzi was clearly killed by a skilled assassin of malintent.
Achebe writes, “ Okonkwo drew his machete and cut him down. He was afraid of being thought weak” (Achebe 63). Many other members of the tribe would have let their son be killed because of the unwavering faith many have in their religion and the decisions of the elders. However, not many would do it themselves. This scene truly showcases Okonkwo’s fears.
2.2 Murder Counter Argument A highly recognized archeologist Frank Rulhi has done a number of experiments relating to the murder. He says that the arrow ruptured a blood vessel but caused no major tissue damage. The wound would have caused plenty of discomforts but not death Also relating to the head injuries.
Otzi’s status in society was probably high because he was a hunter. Being the hunter is a big job because you get the food for the village to eat, he could also be chief hunter which would be a top job. The hunter is a big job back then because you can’t just go to the store and buy something. Scientists know that the Iceman had useful tools to hunt and kill the animals so it probably not as hard to hunt. As a result, Otzi was a hunter in a high society rank because it is hard and it is helpful for his
