Our Legendary Legacy Generation Z is leaving the biggest and most unique legacy this world has seen thus far. When viewing our generation from an outsider’s perspective it could be understood how others, not a part of our generation can see a lot of negatives. We have set a new tone for the generations to come, from the way we talk to the way we dress. One of the biggest problems for our generation today is violence. It’s all over the news, “Mass Shooting”, this does not live up to Generation Z’s potential. Unfortunately, violence is a big part of the legacy our generation is leaving behind for future generations; fortunately there is still time to leave a more positive legacy. Violence comes in all different sizes from high school disagreements …show more content…
We see this through news articles, social media posts, and for some people through experience. School violence is a very tragic occurrence that we are viewing more and more these days. Violence such as shootings and extreme forms of violence start off as fist fights or arguments in the hallways but have the potential to lead to something more. School is a place where children learn to live their life and how to be a responsible young adult. School life for a child plays a major role of who a child will become as a person in the future. They should not have to worry about distractions dealing with violence. It should be a safe and comfortable place for a child to grow up and prepare for later life but for some this is the exact opposite of the case. “in the last decade two hundred and four kids were murdered due to school violence – these were shootings, stabbings, fighting, and suicides” (Standberry). For a school setting especially, let alone any setting, this is very …show more content…
As stated before, our generation is not like any other; we are very different from past generations. We are a very diverse group of people. Outsiders may just see the negatives of our generation, but there are some hidden positives. What is valued as a part of our generation is for the most part, we are accepting to all personalities and to all kinds of people. This is probably one of the most valued traits of Generation Z. Next, our generation is also very daring when doing things. We are willing to step outside the box and do things that no other generation has done before. However, some of us may tend to take this to the extreme. Also, our generation is very confident in their abilities as a whole. Some people use their confidence in a negative way to do illegal things while others use their confidence to do great things in the world. Self-confidence especially, is a remarkable quality to have, it can help you do things you never thought you would be able to do. It can help you make a change in the world or even a community. Generation Z is very outspoken with how they feel and who they are. Lastly, our generation is accepting, another tremendous quality to possess. Our generation understands that you have to accept certain people for who they are, you cannot change the inevitable. Equality for everyone was a big discrepancy for a long time. Our generation has played a role in making this
Generation Z is a generation that has had a lot of an impact on our society. In ways that some agree with or might not agree with. Gen Z has changed and has done things differently. As Harry Beard goes and talks about ¨what makes Generation Z so different¨” on Ted Talks, and empowers his generation on the different ways the generation has done things. He does this by using the three appeals of logos, ethos, and pathos.
Baby boomers are a great generation from 1940 to 1950 and there are millions of them. Almost exactly nine months after World War II ended, “the cry of the baby was heard across the land,” and that’s exactly what everyone did. Over 76 million kids were born during this period, making it the fastest population growth ever. That generation also makes up over 40% of the US population, which at this time are still the largest generation. The baby boomers have had a major effect on the whole nation.
Violence can be small. It can be big. It can be something you see every day and it can be something that is hidden in plain sight. The one thing that we need to remember is that violence always has a repercussion.
Stuart Henry’s “School Violence Beyond Columbine” is looking at the major aspects of violence, not just when it consists of guns in school, but from bullying. Henry uses multiple theories and applies them to the concept that school violence is broad and is composed of a continuous violence, not just one incident. Throughout Henry’s research, he finds that the violent situations are due to different social concepts in society, such as the social hierarchy in schools and the type of discipline used at home. When it comes to school shootings and extremely dangerous and violent behavior from students, most of these students were first victims of these different social notions known in today’s society. The reason Henry uses interdisciplinarity is to understand how all of the different type of behaviors generate school violence.
A week ago, when the news of the Florida shooting popped up on my phone I instantly felt the pain of how tragic this incident was, but I wasn’t shocked; which itself is a tragedy. In the age we are a part of now, violence is slowly becoming something we often hear about. This doesn’t make the events any less unfortunate, but it does say many other things about the way we have started to live our lives. Why have we let ourselves come to the devastating point of not being shocked when we hear about a shooting, let alone a school shooting? These schools are filled with kids, many of who in the eyes of the law aren’t even adults.
Why? Well many things may factor into that, one of those being that we are more technology bound. Our generation has always been around
Since this is a qualitative question instead of a quantitative one it can be defined many different ways. Some might say that in order for a generation to be great, they must improve their world in some way. Others might say they must come together for a common cause. Others still could define a generation as great by their focus on equal rights for all. The generation that grew up during the Great Depression and fought in World War 2 was able to do every single one of these things and prove that they are in fact the greatest generation.
With violence progressing from teachings, movies and entertainment as well as environments it's important to realize there's one of two outcomes; an endless generation of people who have been taught violence and will teach others or a drive and determination to allow yourself to be better and to influence those around them in environments for the
My generation thinks they deserve everything and it should be done for them. When you are from a military family you understand that to get what you want, you must do it yourself and work hard for it and if you give up you don’t get to pick back up where you left off, you start all over. This helps me more and more the older I get because it has taught me how to be a respectful person in society. This is a great attribute because many of people my age are not yet this
The millennial generation is often criticized for being the laziest generation, one that never does anything. This generation is often looked down upon as a disappointment, but it has shown that it is more than capable of achieving great accomplishments. Through social media platforms, the young people of today have created movements and have educated many people around the world. This generation has learnt to be politically correct. This generation had learnt to be aware of the struggles people are facing around the world.
has also resulted in the unheard of precedence of having the youngest in the workforce be the most expert at a critical skill. Instead of young nurses turning to their older colleagues for advice, older nurses are often dependent upon their younger peers for coaching, mentoring, and guidance in using the computer for everything from documenting their work to accessing necessary information. The transition to the Information Age literally flipped generational relationships. • This transition has occurred in the context of the differing generational expectations and experiences described above. Yet members of each generation still operate as if their values and expectations are universal.
Some people argue that Millennials are entitled, self-centred, and uninterested in anything other than their own Facebook and Twitter page. This generation has been known to have high self-esteem, assertiveness, self-importance, narcissism, and high expectations. Having a higher self-esteem comes with many positive outcomes and benefits. People high in self-esteem claim to be more likable, attractive and make better impressions on others in a working environment than other people with low self-esteem. Millennials with greater self-importance are the ones who help others and care about large social
Due to the fact that each generation grew up in a different year in time, each generation carry different characteristics, interests, concerns and experiences. Some characteristics of Generation X may include being conservative, money savvy (they were directly affected by the recession in 1988 and 2007 and the cold war), self-reliant, and skeptical. Generation Y is more open minded, tech-savvy, realistic, narcissistic, not as sociable face to face (due to being on social media all the time, they forget how to communicate in person) and collaborative. Generation Z is children born into the digital age, they may have difficulty socializing face to face, self learners, independent, extremely tech savvy, globally connected and aware, open minded impatient, and confident. When it comes to education, a vast majority of Generation X has attended high school and only some went to college (going to college was not as encouraged as it is today).
Research has shown that American schools are one of the safest places for children (Sugai & Horner, 2008). But in the past 20 years, school violence has been widely broadcasted, raising concerns for parents, teachers and administrators alike. The purpose of all school discipline policies is to reduce instances of student misbehavior, including bullying, fighting, vandalism, truancy, and drug use. Public concerns have called for a tightening of these policies so that students are truly safe and more successful in school. With heightened concerns, the use of zero tolerance policies has been on the rise (Peterson & Skiba, 2000).
No one likes to be punished at school, and I mean nobody. Some kids that may be born to be rude or annoying, they may not care. Kids that are smart though and don’t mind school would kill to get called to the office. Have you ever been in that predicament? The more it happens, the worse it gets, and it is not cool.
