My interest peaked when I took up a Diploma in Sports & Leisure Management with Outdoor Education Elective. I continued to pursue my interest and have been working as an outdoor educator since 2008.
Throughout my career in the outdoor education industry, there have been many debates or rather, discussions, that often boils down to two extreme perspectives – outdoor education being seen as either relevant or redundant for our Singaporean children.
I say that it is an extreme because there have been cases where students have opted out from attending their yearly camps, and are usually being supported by their parents who would assist them and would go to the extent of getting a planned medical certificate just so that they could skip the

These research literature were retrieved using online databases like ProQuest, JStor, as well as the Murdoch University online library.
Also, to prove that the topic I’ve chosen is a recent and high profile issue, I have used relevant news articles cited from accredited websites like the Straits Times or ABC News, all of which have assisted me in my research and research proposal. 4.2 Keeping Track
In order to keep myself in the loop, I have signed myself up for updates from local newspapers, as well as subscribed myself to the social media accounts of relevant organizations for my research. For example, the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Outdoor Learning & Adventure Education Association (OLAE SG) that was founded on February 25, which represents any person or organisation involved in the design and delivery of outdoor learning and adventure education programmes in Singapore. 5 Literature Review

Continuing to major section II, the researcher developed a theoretical perspective including a literature review. The researcher had to know what the current base of knowledge was to make a contribution to the topic. MSH and DMH websites provided information about their mission; as well as their services. With the subject of funding mental health care being a hot topic right now, the researcher was able to get a considerable amount of information from agency documents and reports; as well as the local media. The researcher also used scholarly peer-reviewed secondary sources from Belhaven’s online library databases.
In this community lately, there has been discussion lately on sports possibly being removed from the high schools. Although, they get the most recognition that does not mean that just because one little thing it gets removed and completely forgotten about. In fact, so many people do high school sports in the text “Are High School Sports Good For Kids” it explicitly states “Here in Michigan almost 300,000 young people take part in high school sports every year.” This scene particularly shows that many youth athletes participate in high school sports in only one state alone.
(Background info) Children often are influenced to spend their early athletic years participating in just one singular sport. Many children are never given an option about their participation in sports, as their parents make that decision for them. (Thesis) America’s Youth have been directly impacted by year round sports as it has created a loss if interest in their favorite sport prior to even reaching
The 1800’s were filled with expedition and adventure. The elites were profiting from people expanding west with the help of transportation routes. Lewis and Clark had major help from the Mandans and Sacajawea with their journey west. The Napoleonic Wars, War Hawks, and the War of 1812 were all things that challenged Mandans in diplomacy. Led by Tecumseh and Tenskwatawa, Natives were divided into accommodationists and traditionalists.
On the contrary, others feel that children need these sports to learn
The importance of children’s athletics is for kids to have fun. When the child stops getting enjoyment out of the sport, then it is the parent’s job to take them out. Sports can have many positive effects on a child’s life, but it is important to remember too much of a good thing can make it a hurtful thing. As the culture of youth athletics spirals out of control, it is the parent’s responsibility to save the child from short-term and, unfortunately, long-term damage. Parents need to evaluate how far they are willing to go for youth athletics and when they will have taken their obsession too
The motivation, passion, and the internal will to want to succeed in life has always dwelled within me, so ultimately, all I needed was to find what interest me in life. In the beginning, I found myself staring down the road of becoming a teacher or dental hygienist. At first the idea of becoming a teacher seemed like a prominent, and fulfilling job. I get to convey knowledge to groups of young individuals, I also get to work in a setting with other mature adults who share my passion, and I have the opportunity to work with children; but, ultimately, there was just one main component missing for me, and that was the hands-on aspect. I told myself that I wanted to be involved in a career that is very hands-on.
As a part of our book club for Sport Ethics, my group read Why Johnny Hates Sports. In this book, Fred Engh examines the various reasons why more and more youth are dropping out of sport at a younger age. He dives deep into detail examining why this happens blaming it on overeager parents, the win-at-all-costs mentality, coaches, administrators, and even the media. In addition, he proposes changes to youth sport to stop this issue from continuing and calls for a return to fair play, teamwork, and true enjoyment of the game. This is non-fictional book written by Fred Engh.
Throughout the semester, I have gained a better understanding of adapted physical education and sport programs. These programs provide children and adults with an opportunity to participate in sports they may not have thought were possible. The modifications to sport and exercise allows individuals with a range of disabilities to engage in activity. The disabilities can range from a mild learning disability to a permanent condition caused from a serious accident. While observing numerous individuals with disabilities, I was able to obtain a better understanding of the challenges that came with physical activity.
Sports have contributed to the society in many ways. It is not all about playing the sports for physical benefits. As mentioned by Nelson Mendela ““Sport has the power to change the world,” Sports have positively contributed to the society in many ways. Since the 19th century sports in Singapore played a vital role in engaging the different ethnic groups. This was made possible through the various communal groups such as Chinese swimming club, Indian association, Malay football club and others.
This is, however, a perfect site for community recreation students interested in outdoor recreation because you are able to experience how professionals immerse young people in the outdoors, which can ultimately shape how they feel about outdoor recreation later in their
