In order to make progressive steps towards delivering a good service for citizens of the community it is imperative that as a company we highlight areas such as communication where barriers can present themselves in different forms; therefore ensuring that as a company we are able to adapt to individuals and groups and work alongside them in the best suited method to achieve positive outcomes. A few strategies that can be used to overcome barriers of communication are:
• Assessing the environment
When communicating with an individual or group there can often be distractions, in today’s society one of those distractions is technology and with that being said removing these types of technology for example, phone, laptop, and tablet it can assist in conversation flow and concentration can be enhanced if focus is on communication. As well as making sure the environment isn’t too noisy or too busy to support the communicator to concentrate on what they are trying to say, this is another distraction.
• Person centred approach
A person centred approach can be implemented in many aspects, however just by acknowledging an individual’s boundaries and respecting them for example the slang or language that it used to communicate with them, will have an effect on how communication takes place. When attempting to speak with

Physical barrier Physical barrier are objects that prevent an individual from getting to their destination. For example, a wheelchair user is unable to enter a building because there are steps so they can’t get through the entrance.

Language is used everyday in lives. We use it to communicate with each other to show how we feel or think. Comfort can drift away from us if we do not have the ability to communicate with others. Barriers can present themselves when trying to communicate inhibiting language. Monetary and Societal Obstacles Societal simply comes from the word society and it means relating to society. Monetary refers to money. In our society monetary and societal obstacles can intertwine. These obstacles can even build on each other. Consequently, this can cause bigger problems if they are not handled correctly.

We all communicate with others in our lives. We communicate with our families, when we go shopping, at school or college or chat with friends. Communication with others is a natural part of life.
The two key topics in class in the last weeks, for me. Two of the most relevant topics developed in the last weeks were: non-verbal communication and the barriers to communication. Everytime we communicate with another person or group of people, we have to take into account some factors other than what we are actually saying that can affect how the message is going to be received: body language, tone, intonation, facial expressions, and others; this is what we understand for non-verbal communication. As we saw in class “55% of communication is body language, 38% is the tone of voice, and 7% is the actual words spoken.”
Whereas, poor listening skills impede communication. The textbook discusses several types of listeners. The first is the faker, the faker only pretends to be listening. The best way to discover if you are dealing with one of these types is to randomly quiz them on the things that you have communicated to them.
