In the Lilies of the Field, by William E. Barrett, Homer and Mother Maria both display stubbornness, thoughtfulness and religiousness character traits. The 1st trait that Homer and Mother Maria share is stubbornness. Homer showed stubbornness when building the chapel; he insisted that he lay the bricks by himself. Mother Maria showed stubbornness when she insisted that Homer would build the chapel and that she wouldn’t pay him. The 2nd trait that Homer and Mother Maria share is thoughtfulness.
Rocket Boys, by Homer H. Hickam, Jr., is a memoir based on Hickam’s upbringing in Coalwood, West Virginia. Coalwood is a small town centered around one thing: Its coal mining industry. Homer’s dad was the superintendent of the mine and is constantly answering to the workers, who eventually form a union and hold a strike for better pay. Perhaps the second most important thing to Coalwood citizens was high school football. Jim, Homer’s brother, is the center of attention as he is a member of the Coalwood High football team and because of this, he has a future.
Although with bad intentions Brother’s pride came with positive effects. The first effect that Brother’s had was that it helped him perceive that Doodle was an intelligent human being. “Mama, he smiled. He’s all there! He’s all there!
The story is told through the perspective of a grown man, who shares his memories about Doodle, his younger brother. The narrator, who Hurst only describes as “Brother,” is an outgoing and audacious, young boy. As a 6-year-old living in the rural, he dreadfully sought someone to accompany him through his adventures, a younger brother. However, when he discovers that his young brother is born physically disabled, he is shattered, his dreams crushed like a can of soda. Brother rages, “It was bad enough having an invalid brother, but having one who possibly wasn’t all there was unbearable, so I began to make plans to kill him by smothering him with a pillow.”

Thousands of people join our military and risk their lives to fight for their country. After many years of fighting in war, soldiers are no longer who they used to be. When they return home, they are looked down upon, treated badly, and aren’t given the treatment needed to recover. The struggles and obstacles these veterans face on their journey home and once they arrive forever face. In the epic poem, Odyssey by Homer, it shows the obstacles a soldier has to face on their journey.
Though it may seem strange, a poem that is almost 3,000 years old symbolizes the obstacles I will soon face in my life. This epic poem is The Odyssey by Homer. Many believe that the obstacles in this story are not to be taken literally, but that they provide deeper messages or morals. The Odyssey is a perfect allegory for life. When a reader looks at the story at the surface, it seems that it is simply about a Greek man, Odysseus, trying to return home land of Ithaca while he must fight monsters and avoid magical dangers.
The boys got together and agreed/ believed that they they could follow their dreams. When they finally agreed/believed, one of the village man was saying that they wouldn’t be able to make a team and create space to build. That was the obstacle they would hit all the time
Homer, Hesiod and the Epistemological Tradition Homer’s and Hesiod’s epic poems do not contain a philosophical system. Epic narrators are no critical thinkers whose purpose is to compare and analyse conflicting views on the origins of the world as well as on human nature, ethics and religion, searching for most adequate answers. Still, Homer and Hesiod have a philosophical value and can be integrated into a philosophical debate. Even if we limit our analysis to their role in the tradition of Greek philosophy, we have to admit their importance for several authors, starting with Xenophanes and Heraclites.
In the dramatic short story Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst a boy named Doodle and his brother encounter many obstacles similar to the brothers in the movie Simon Birch even though they come from starkly different family situations. Doodle and Simon were always the underdogs and wanted to be accepted. Doodle wasn’t accepted by his brother whereas Simon’s brother always looked at him like an equal. There brothers teach them many things like baseball and how to walk. Simon and Doodle are always happy and never sad or down.
The Odyssey by Homer is an exemplary story that teaches life lessons to those going on a journey for themselves. It illustrates how the challenges and obstacles one may face can help someone become a better leader. The Odyssey highlights one man, Odysseus, a man filled with excessive pride, experiencing the wrath of the god Poseidon. He expects to arrive at his home, Ithaca, safely to reunite with his wife, Penelope, but unfortunately faces many temptations and setbacks. Due to the challenges he faces, it prevents him from arriving home as early as he thought he would.
Jim’s emptiness and maturity prevails over his dangerous
Life gives us many chances to learn lessons. Much like the main character in The Odyssey by Homer. I have learned to fight for what I want, listen to advice and that actions have consequences. Both Odysseus and I have learned these three life lessons. Odysseus and people around the world have to fight for what they want.
Determining the difference between right and wrong can be difficult, but life lessons help us figure it out. During The Odyssey, by Homer, Odysseus learns a few lessons, and one of them is that you should be aware of your surroundings and ready to use them. Another moral that he learned was to heed all warnings, regardless what your instincts say. These messages can be used in life today to help guide people during their lives.
