I have learned that success is to be measured not much by the position that one has reached in the live as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed. Everyone has faced obstacles and most of the time some people overcome them. Thee obstacles that people face have to overcome, live with them, or even just go around them.Three characters that face and overcome obstacles in imaginary literature or real life are Jon Krakauer, Odysseus, and me. Jon Krakauer had obstacles to face when he climbed down Mt.Everest in the excerpt of “Into Thin Air”. The obstacle Jon had to face was his mind. He couldn’t think straight, his mind had gone haywire. The lack of oxygen and because he was really high up in the mountain, all of the pressure in his brain didn’t allow him to think or breathe correctly. Then came the situation where Jon’s oxygen tank ran out, he had problems breathing and focusing on getting down the mountain. Jon had to find a way to get down the mountain and get down safely. Jon Krakauer faced many obstacles on the mountain very similar to Ody’s journey in “The Odyssey”. …show more content…
They wanted to rule and be in charge of everything that was Odysseus, for example the land and Penelope. Odysseus got help from his son Telemachus to sneak into his own land so he could get back Penelope. This was one of the obstacles Odysseus had to go through. He had to take down each and every man that was living in his house, trying to get Penelope and marry her. Odysseus took down all the men that were not worthy of winning against him and his son. Odysseus went through many obstacles facing all the men living in his land, very similar to my obstacle
Jon Krakauer’s fascination in a young man’s life turns out to be more than an article of the boy’s adventure and the journey he set out for himself. Krakauer reflects on much larger subjects within the book based on his path while trying to understand Chris McCandless. Chris McCandless, a young man from an East Coast family, abandons everything set for him in his path. Donating twenty-four-thousand-dollar savings account to charity, burning the cash he had, leaving his car and possessions behind were all decisions Chris thought were right for him. His confident yet riskful choices led him to an independent life in the wild.
For as long as anyone can remember, people have dreamed of reaching the summit of Mt. Everest. During May of 1996, an expedition set out to Nepal to attempt a climb up Mt. Everest. By the end of this expedition to the top of Everest, many climbers lost their lives due to the brutal weather. In Jon Krakauer’s novel Into Thin Air, he takes readers through the story of the expedition, and he talks about the climbers who died. Among the list of the dead was a man named Doug Hansen.
He may have been stranded on the mountain like the others if he had used all his energy on the ascent and not having enough to get down. Like Lopsang, who used all his energy helping clients to the top, that he could not make it to the top himself. Jon made the smart decisions that helped him on journey like graduates who will take the knowledge they acquired from class to the community around them where they will make the smart

There were many traits that made up Odysseus as a wanted leader. He was quite ambitious and was willing to take some risks. Most risks that would be taken were for him to return to his wife in the
In The Odyssey, Odysseus has to overcome the dangers of the open ocean, the wrath of gods, and dangerous
In Homer’s The Odyssey Odysseus goes on a journey to get back home from war. Along the way he goes through monsters, challenges, and obstacles that he has to face to make it back to reach his goal in the end. He has difficulties that change him as a person and how he reacts to events and points. This relates to me because even though both of our lives are different we have similarities.
It was 1996 when Jon Krakauer took a job from the magazine company, Outside, to report on mountain climbing expedition tours which had been raising speculation. Krakauer had a passion for climbing ever since a young age, and he especially had always wanted to climb Everest. He had climbed before, but not altitudes as intense as what he was about to take on. Upon his journey, he found the altitude to be more than challenging. His oxygen intake began decreasing substancially and he could feel himself fading away.
Being treated poorly isn’t very fun, but doing your job and not being praised for it feels even worse, for some veterans, this can happen as soon as they return home. Not everyone knows a veteran, but plenty of veterans are having trouble recovering the lives they had before combat, and are treated as if they committed a crime. Some veterans also cannot find jobs that don’t interfere or trigger their PTSD(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) or freak them out in general. Veterans that are coming back from war are having trouble getting re-affiliated with civilian life and are being treated very poorly by society, as Odysseus is treated in the Odyssey.
In the story The Odyssey, Odysseus males many allies and enemies while trying to get back home. In the Epic The Odyssey by Homer, the hero Odysseus is trying to get back to the land Ithaca from the Trojan War. For the past ten years, Odysseus has been facing obstacles such as monsters, vengeful gods, and living god 's while traveling back home. For another ten years, Odysseus was stuck in the war against the Trojans who lost. On the way home, Odysseus has been tested on his ability to survive and be a good hero.
As Famous NBA star Michael Jordan once said “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it or work around it” (Redsnapper-Lanta) This precise thing happens in both The Odyssey and “The Cruelest Journey” when Odysseus is on his way home and he has to fight river monsters and when Salak hurts her arm and has to fight the epic waves. The authors use imagery and detail to show show that people embark upon quests to accomplish a goal and that to achieve these goals one must face senseless obstacles and challenges.
Odysseus could have been trying to protect his men but because of this, he doesn't have anyone now. The actions of Odysseus had a negative impact on him. A leader should always have smart decision-making and think of others. Odysseus didn't project that here. Odysseus is being self-absorbed here.
"Into Thin Air" describes a suffering that results from the ambition to achieve an extreme challenge. While the mountain climbers mentioned in the account of Jon Krakauer's book had this special ambition, they lacked a sense of realism which ultimately ended in the demise during their journey to summit the top of Mount Everest. " Into Thin Air" conveys the dangers of perseverance through the guides' greed for the profit they are earning, the climbers' perilous drive to reach the summit under no matter what circumstance, and the effect of millionaire Dick Bass's achievement of climbing to the top of Mount Everest that left other amateur climbers with the idea that the goal of reaching the summit was easily attainable. The guides' perseverance
The world is full of challenges, obstacles, and difficulties. The human being is created in order to tolerate these difficulties, and overcome their obstacles. However, some people who have a weak personality cannot endure the difficulties of life, and even they do not attempt to deal with these challenges. On the other hand, the people whose personality is very strong, and who can hold on the life always make efforts to find a way through barriers in their life. They try to seek an opportunity in their obstacles.
Jon Krakauer the author of “Into Thin Air” uses tension and suspense throughout his book by order of events. His book is about him climbing Mount Everest with other climbers like Rob Hall, Beck Weathers, Scott Fisher and more. Everything is somewhat fine on the way up but on the way down is when things start to go wrong. Tension is when the author raises emotional, and suspense is when the author creates a scene that makes you want to read more to find out what happens. Jon Krakauer uses tension and suspense to create a mysterious and sad feeling throughout the book, and uses it by going in order by events, using pacing and foreshadowing, and by employing organizational patterns.
