In The Outsiders, by S.E. Hilton, we go to a time where gangs remain dominant and run the streets. S.E. Hinton tells us about two enemy gangs. The Socs, one of the many provocative gang groups, kids who live lavish lives and get away with the crimes they commit because they look clean cut and look like good innocent kids on the outside. Then there 's the Greasers, who live poorly and get blamed for most of the things that go down in the city. Ponyboy, and Johnny, two Greasers, that at first, clang to the fact that they hated Socs. All they wanted to do was fight the other gang to look tough and earn respect.

“Greatness is birthed through hardship and testing. It arises choice by choice.” -John Paul Jackson. This quote means that success comes through hard work, trial, and many great and poor choices. Ponyboy encounters many hardships such as stereotyping and Johnny’s, Darry’s, and Ponyboy’s parent’s deaths. However, he makes the choice to still act happy and to not care what other people think. Everyone acquires hardships in life and it’s how you handle them that determines who you are as a person.

I have two brothers, the youngest one is Ponyboy and the one in the middle is Sodapop. I’m the oldest out of them two, I’m the young parent for them. I like to work out a lot and I dropped out of school because I need to help and support my brothers, after our parents died. That’s what my parents told me to do for them, if they would ever die or some happen to them. Everything has changed since that happened, one of the things that changed the most was me, because now I gotta take care of them and mostly Ponyboy because he’s too young and I have to get him out of trouble. Who struggles more in life the rich or poor? The book The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton is about two groups of teenagers the Greasers and the Socs and how they struggle in life. The two informational articles offer facts about how two groups of teenagers struggle in life because wealthy kids have money to pay bills and food as well as feel pressure from their parents’ about school while low income teenagers have to drop out of school to help their families by working to help pay the bills and buy food. Some people believe that the Socs struggled more in The Outsiders because they are rich so everyone thinks they have everything they want, but really they do not have their parents attention, yet that’s really all they want and others believe the Greasers struggled more in The Outsiders because they have no money and have to work for what they want in life. Hinton, both the Greasers and the Socs face different struggles in life, however, the Greasers have more difficult lives because they get jumped, lack of money,they get put down by the Socs and have titles over their heads.

At the beginning of The Outsiders Ponyboy walked out of the movie house. He was minding his own business, All of the sudden these Socs started following him and jumped him. As you see here the Socs are bullies to the Greasers, but the Greasers can be bullies to the Socs, too.

The story is from the perspective of Ponyboy Curtis, a 14 year old boy. He is living with his two brothers Darry and Sodapop because both his parents died. Darry is 20 years old and Sodapop is 17. They both work to help support the family. Ponyboy and his brothers live on the poor side of town. They are called greasers and are not as privileged as the Socs who live on the rich side of town. Being a greaser is difficult because they are the lowest class. The Socs often harass and beat up the greasers. In the beginning of the story, Pony gets beat up by a group of Socs. Pony and his brothers are also part of a gang. This gang consists of Darry, Soda, Ponyboy, Johnny, Steve, Dally, and Two-bit. They are all greasers and they have been through hard times. Society and class is an important theme in “The Outsiders”, a novel written by S.E Hinton. “The Outsider”, is a book about two gangs, the Greasers and the socs who are rivals because of their economic and social differences. Throughout the book, S.E Hinton outlines that Socs, who have a better economic status are unaware of all of the other aspects in life and feel superior over the Greasers.

It is about how a gang of low-income teens, the Greasers, conflicts with another gang of wealthy teens, the Socs. By being loyal to each other, the Greasers have overcome most of the challenges that the Socs have proposed. This is why the major theme of The Outsiders is that loyalty is essential for a group’s survival and well-being.
