Observing the childhood of the parents of the three novels one can say that Stephen King purports the philosophy of “Children being the reflections of their parents.” In The Shining the fault of the adult is constituted by Jack, his father, his mother, Wendy, her mother and as well partially by a chef, Hallorann. Danny becomes the instrument of the familial and the hotel ghosts, whose shape his personality and leave their mark on him. Jack’s tough childhood is projected through his whole life, his father’s words and nature were gradually stealing into Jack’s mind until he changed into him. His father showed to Jack a bad role model, not only by his lousy upbringing but also by his alcoholism. Similar is true in case of Carrie and Firestarter. …show more content…

Despite this, he teaches her self-control. Their relationship is broken when Hollister succeeds in imprisoning him and his daughter separately. Carrie is then entrusted to the care of a dangerous father figure, Native American John Rainbird, who is a foil to normative white American masculinity of Andy. This shifts reader’s disgust to a foster parent rather than to the biological parent (in case of Carrie and Shining). The checkered past and symbolism of the Overlook Hotel in Stephen King’s novel ,The Shining, reflects the characters’ pasts and influences their actions in order to show the building as more of an antagonist (of sorts) than a setting. One example of support for the claim is when Jack Torrence is having a dream after discovering the blood and bits in the Presidential suite from a gang fight years prior, where he believes that he is killing an intruder of the hotel with a mallet, but as he threw the mallet down, “the face below him was not of the intruder but of Danny’s. It was the face of his son. Then the mallet crashed home, closing his eyes forever. Suddenly Jack awoke standing over Danny’s bed, his fists clenched tightly.”
At the beginning of the book, Bird is distrustful because his father fed him lies ever since his mother left causing him to not trust his father, but in the end he betters himself and becomes trusting because when he leaves to New York leaving behind his father to find his mother, he trusts his mother to protect him. The text states, “You haven't –heard from her have you…she's not a part of your life anymore as far as we’re concerned, she doesn't exist” (Ng 54). This quote perfectly encapsulates how Bird's father gaslights him and how he loses Bird's trust as after this quote Bird knows what his fathers saying is wrong. Bird's father clearly shows here how he manipulates his son into believing his mother was doing no good, in part with good intentions but it isn't clear to Bird at the moment. The text states “the teacher said…we all want our children to be safe…we don’t want them exposed to bad ideas—ideas that might hurt them, or encourage them to do bad things” (Ng 32).

Doc 4C and Doc 5C come from the 18th century time frame, and both documents state that children are seen as treated well.
