A feral child is a referred to a human child who has been isolated from human contact and has had minimal human contact from a very young age, and has minimal or no human care, loving or social behaviour, and crucially of human language (Keith, 2008). The behavioural development of a feral child illustrates abnormalities of its basic process, biological, person and socio-cultural behaviours.
Oxana Malaya, also known as ‘The Dog Girl’ portrayed abnormal characteristics. Oxana’s case demonstrates her strange behaviour caused my nurture. Oxana did not receive nurture from her biological family; therefore she made comfort with her dog companions, who later were the ones to shape Oxana’s behaviour and personality.
Oxana Malaya was born in November 1983 to alcoholic parents in a small village in southern Ukraine. Oxana was born as a normal human child, although her characteristics were seen as abnormal. Due to Oxana’s parents being alcoholic they were not able to take care of themselves and neglected Oxana at an early age. In order for Oxana to be taught the correct behaviour and basic education, she may require intensive care by a psychologist for a few years before she is placed out in the society. In order for Oxana to overcome her mental issues from her experience, she may require extreme counselling. In order to assist in the development of Oxana’s socio-emotional development, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) may be used. CBT may assist in the development as the stimulation, parental nurturance and sufficient nourishment which are the essential elements in the brain that may assist in the growth of Oxana’s
