Why did Japan and United States go to War? Japan and the United States went to war with each other for reasons like Pearl Harbor and tension between Germany and the middle east. Before Pearl Harbor, Japan wanted to show East Asia that they are strong, because Japan wanted to conquer Asia. Japan was also mad because The United States stopped giving them oil. These reasons eventually led to the United States getting involved, and trying to make World War 2 slowly come to an end.

In this essay, I will be concentrating more on the facts of the Battle of Antietam then the tactical movements, or all the decisions made during this battle. I will however cover some key points that do point to poor leadership and execution of plans. Most of this essay will cover facts of Special Order 191, errors in judgment by General George B. McClellan, the sunken road, the importance of victory needed for General Robert E. Lee, and lastly the overall analysis of the outcome. At dawn on the morning of September 17, 1862, the nation’s bloodiest battle and bloodiest day in American History occurred. The battle began with an attack by General Joseph Hooker to capture the plateau in which the Dunker Church now called sat upon and a small creek that ran through the battlefield named Antietam Creek; hence, this is where the name The Battle of Antietam originated.
The War of 1812 was pretty eventful. Some of the main reasons it started was because the British were capturing American sailors and making them work for them, and they wanted American ships to stop in Britain and pay a tax if they wanted to share merchandise with any other European countries. This obviously made James Madison, the president at the time, mad so then he told Congress that he wanted to declare war. At first congress said no, but eventually Madison got his war.
One of the most famous examples of this is Pickett’s charge. Although many historians say that the crushing defeat the result of a multitude of factors, all of it traces back to General Robert E. Lee. On July 3rd, 1863, General Lee, pressured by the incoming reinforcements and a dwindling food supply, ordered General Longstreet to take the combined forces of Major General
The Battle of Midway is often regarded as the turning point of the war in the Pacific theater, where 5-minutes (starting at 10:25 am) “miracle” changed the course of the battle and consequently its victor. Authors and historians who have written on the battle and the U.S.’s victory have regarded it as an act of luck, even veterans of the battle who remembered it several decades afterthought of their impossible win as a result of divine intervention. Symonds argues against this commonly held belief, arguing instead that it wasn’t because of luck or divine intervention but more so because of the mistakes and quick decision making of men like fleet admiral Chester Nimitz and Lieutenant Commander Joseph Rochefort and those under their command that
One specific way to closely analyze individuality in the Star Wars films is by looking at the droids and clones. In the prequels, both the jedi and the separatists use their clone and droid armies, respectively, as completely expendable soldiers, making the large-scale battle scenes emotionless. Since both the good and evil sides in this war make their armies in a factory, and both sides use their factory-made soldiers as expendable beings, the good versus evil dichotomy gets blurred. As John C. McDowel states in his book Identity Politics in George Lucas’ Star Wars: “The clones are presented as not being fully human, a consequence of the deliberate constraining of their individuality in the cloning process. They become more like biologically material machines, constructed through an instrumentalizing of life that denies them their own potential for becoming free and equal subjects in their own right” (33).
The American Civil War was one of the devastating wars that the world and the newly formed country of the United States had ever seen. It was one of the bloodiest wars that the country would see, even into modern times of the twenty first century as well. There were many turning points to the war that helped turn the tide of the war in the favor of the North to win eventually. The war had more casualties than any other war the United States had ever been in, so that goes to show how much both the North and the South were willing to give up to win one of the most important wars in US history. There were many battles that helped expose the advantages and disadvantages for both sides had during this costly war.
World War I is often associated with trench Warfare and battles on the land, with very little thought given to the importance of naval warfare. Beginning with the Anglo-German Naval Race (1898-1912), Germany began building up their High Seas Fleet to challenge the Grand Fleet (“Anglo-German Naval Race”). Britain had been the World’s only international naval superpower for well over 100 years until Germany decided to challenge their dominance. Shortly after the start of World War I, the Anglo-French Naval Convention (1914) was signed, which greatly shaped Allied naval strategy. In 1914, Britain put a distant blockade on Germany, which allowed them to control exits from the North Sea and damaged both Germany’s economy and War effort (Roskill 4: 533).
