Symptoms such as depression, impulsive anger, and paranoia continue to affect Odysseus in his life, though he and others might fail to recognize it. While The Odyssey might be a fictional epic, the issues it addresses are still very real even in today’s society. Post traumatic stress disorder is still a significant issue, and though rates of the illness have improved, work still needs to be done. However, the solution to PTSD is not reducing the impact of warfare, but instead, providing a better, more welcoming environment for returning soldiers like Odysseus. This story might still provide comfort to soldiers today, because they witness Odysseus overcome his adversities, giving hope that they too can
We do our best so that the community comes out of the ER happier than when they arrive. I believe our impact goes unnoticed physically, because most of our efforts are making sure our patients are emotionally healed as well as physically. As volunteers, our duties are to assure our patients are well and comfortable even in the middle of hardship and chaos. It has made a better all around person and it has taught me several valuable lessons- it’s the small gestures that go a long way. A smile, cup of coffee, or even a small stuffed
It would be very beneficial for the friends and loved ones to be able to receive treatment because PTSD doesn’t just touch the First Responder. Cost is always a factor in any type of treatment. It would be advantageous for the program to be affordable with some type of payment plan if insurance is not accepted such as scholarships, grants etc. Above all a program needs to help the patient remain anonymous if they wish to be. I chose West Coast Post Trauma Retreat as the best solution to help treat PTSD because it meets all of the criteria to be affective and offers an invaluable array of services.
The process of grieving is a very sacred time and must be honored individually. We must learn as a society to support the person or persons grieving. A facilitator or therapist in assisting in the process of grief is there to hold a space for healing and created a safe place for feelings to be expressed and explored. This needs to be done in a non-judgmental way and in a way that honors the individual 's inner process. Many
They fought for the people who couldn't fight for themselves. I believe that the soldiers who stood on the front lines to fight in wars are very brave. I also believe that the soldiers who were not in the front lines were just as brave to be there to support our country. Even those who are peacetime veterans are important and should be honored just the same. Peacetime veterans are home and get to be around their family while knowing that at any time they could be called in to fight.
We need to tell ourselves emphatically that “Simply because I am feeling low at this moment, does not mean that things have to stay like this, for ever”. It can be changed for the better. We need to learn to see the situation from a wider perspective, which will allow us to be aware of the pull of our old habits of negative thinking, and take appropriate action for ensuring better care of ourselves during such vulnerable
Again, learning about what they did in the concentration camps teaches us more and more about how lucky we are living in this time period. We do not live in fear of being tortured or killed because of our ethnic background. I hope you are glad you learned about this subject because it needs to be heard and needs to be remembered. It’s horrifying to learn how animalistic and sadistic one person can be towards others. Lets pray to God that this part of our history will never happen
If hero can be defined as someone who is selflessly caring for others and trying to heal the hurt, then Clara Barton is a hero. She saw something she believed would help her country and the people that lived there and made it happen. Looked at the sadness of war as an opportunity to help those fighting non-violently. As well as, help stand up for those treated unequally and unfairly by society. If you wanted to envision a worse world or at least U.S, then imagine it without Clara
At a place where dealing with people who suffer from a trauma or stress it is important to have self-care to reduce stress and maintain well being for self and for the client. In a situation where a counsellor or a therapist would be suffering from stress there is no way they can help their client overcome the trauma. A counsellor can help the client to work on self-care by giving them the information on how to prevent the trauma to put a setback in the future and help them focus on the elements of self care that may be beneficial for them. Finally, the therapeutic relationships involve the understanding of trauma having a deep understanding of the trauma the client is facing helps the counsellor to introduce new interventions that would turn out be successful in bringing the client back to normal life. Understanding the trauma in-depth allows the
I believe this has helped me to stay focus on what I want even when everyone else thinks otherwise. I understand that police officers are not always liked or appreciated, but I’m not going into this profession to be liked or loved by the rest of the world. I’m doing this for myself, because I believe that this is the best profession for me and believe that this is an honorable profession regardless of what others may think about it. In my opinion, joining the police force is the right thing to do; and I believe that we should all do the right thing all the time and not only when it is convenient or when we have the support of
