Gregorio Esparza was born in San Antonio de Béxar his birth name was José Maria Esparza. He is known as a defender of the Alamo. He was born on February 25, 1802. Gregorio married Anna Salazar whom he had a daughter and three sons. All of Gregorio Esparza’s family was present during the siege of the Mexican Army but only one of his sons Enrique Esparza was one of the eyewitnesses to see his father’s death. During the siege Enrique hid in a pile of hay where he witnessed the death of his father. It is because of his son’s eyewitness account that we know about Gregorio Esparza’s heroic death and what he did for the State of Texas. From the information gathered from Enrique, we have come to find out that Gregorio Esparza was the only body not burned into pyres at the siege of the Alamo. The Mexican Army’s siege of the Alamo took place February 23, 1836- March 6, 1836.

Juan was was a happy man that died at the age of eighty-three and got happily married. Juan Seguin had one brother and one sister. Juan got his first horse on his twelfth birthday. Juan Seguin was an important person to Texas history in his early lifetime, he was also in three wars and served for Native rights.

Dr. Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa opinions, "I just think of myself as a regular guy." He’s nothing but that. Dr. Quinones-Hinojosa was born January 2, 1968 in an impoverished village in  Mexico. Quinones-Hinojosa had nightmares when he was a child that he had to rescue his mother and siblings from fires, floods, and avalanches since he was the oldest of the five children. He started working when he was just 5 years old in his father 's gas station; his family lived in an apartment in the back. But when Mexico’s economy went down the gas station collapsed with his livelihood. His father had to sell it with almost no profit. After the gas station was sold the Quinones-Hinojosa family had to start making they profit with flour tortillas and homemade salsa. When he turned 14 he took short visits to a ranch in San Joaquin Valley, California where his uncle worked as a foreman to make money and bring back for his family by pulling weeds every two months. As a teenager Quinones-Hinojosa always thought he would be an elementary school teacher because of his excellent grades at teacher-training college however he was assigned in a remote, rural area; only that politically-connected affluent kids got good jobs in the city. His salary was barely anything to survive.

When a person takes a drug the chemicals affect the brain by interfering with how the neurons send messages. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the structure of Marijuana and Heroin mimic a natural neurotransmitter which tricks the receptors into allowing the drug to activate neurons inside the brain which interferes with messages and leads to abnormalities of behavior. With other drugs such as cocaine there is an abnormally large amount of neurotransmitters released which disrupts communication channels. Drug abuse can rewire brain connections, decrease synapse activity and cause addiction. The American Psychiatric Association says that addiction is a complex condition, and a brain disease that is manifested by compulsive substance use despite harmful consequence. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) found that 21.5 million American adults (aged 12 and older) battled a substance use disorder in 2014. Addiction to drugs has been a growing issue in America, and is causing jails to become overcrowded. The Bureau of Justice Statistics found that more than half of federal prisoners were incarcerated for drug crimes in 2010. This leads to the question of whether the justice system is doing an adequate job of dealing with drug addiction. Some people believe the War on Drugs has been quite successful due to the amount of drugs seized and the amount of drug kingpins arrested. I believe this to be the wrong mindset when it comes to the war on drugs. The war on drugs isn’t a winnable one so we must do all that is possible to assist those who struggle with drug addiction and decriminalize small amounts of drugs.
