Adaptation is the key to an organism’s survival. It is the only way that organisms can advance with the ever changing environment. According to Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection, the organisms that obtain inheritable traits which permit them to adapt better to their habitat are more likely to survive, reproduction and pass these traits to their offsprings.
A large lapbook with a cover featuring a number of bears with appealing smiles holds the title, “The Story of Fourteen Bears.” Appropriate, one might think, assuming the story is about 14 bears. And in fact, when the book spine cracks open, little minds will discover that yes, there are 14 bears. And yes, this is their story. But what this “Big Golden Book,” by Evelyn Scott does not at first express, is the depth that lies between the relationship and customs of these specific bears.
Kermode bears are important for many reasons. The idea of the Kermode bear started with Frances Kermode of the royal British army the bear was named after him because many people thought he was very important. Sometimes these bears can help states attract tourist which helps the state raise money to save the bear’s habitats and the bears themselves from being endangered. These bears are important to people in so many different ways like the bears help hunters in hunting season, they also help give people the meat and bones they need they need to survive and to help make a profit (Local Distilleries’ Fight for Spirit Bears). The Kermode bears are also called the spirit bear because of their white ghostly look which makes them important to some
Violence in the family is a wide unfortunate phenomenon that can occur anywhere. When it comes to battered women, the psychologies makes distinction between two types of husbands and characterize each one of them differently. In this assay I will describe the similarities and the differences between those two types; the pit bulls and the cobras.
Wolves used to live all over North America, Europe, and Asia, but after the 1950’s wolf populations survived only in northern Minnesota and Alaska in the United States, in Canada, northern Europe, and northern Asia. Now they are making a comeback in other areas because scientists recognize their important role as apex predators. Wolves can live in any type of climate except for the desert and the highest mountains. Their color varies from pure white to jet black, depending on where they live.
Lions are large felines that are traditionally depicted as the "king of the jungle." These big cats once roamed Africa, Asia and Europe. However, now they are found in only two areas of the world and are classified into two subspecies. Asiatic lions live in India 's Gir Forest; African lions live in central and southern Africa. Though they look similar, these two subspecies are very different in size, habitat, diet and
Earth’s climate has been changing over the last few decades, with the global temperatures rising at a high rate (Corell, 2006). Some of these climate changes are due to natural causes, although the strength at which temperatures are rising indicates human influences, such as increased carbon dioxide emission, as well as other greenhouse gases. Climate change particularly affects the Arctic region, where warmer temperatures are causing decrease in sea ice extent and thickness, permafrost thawing, coastal erosion, changes in ice sheets and shelves, and consequently, changes in the distribution and reproduction rates of Arctic species (Corell, 2006).
Grizzly Man is a documentary film released in 2005 and followed a bear activist named Timothy Treadwell, he decided that he wanted to live with bears in Alaska. For thirteen years, during the summer month, Treadwell camped in Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska. During this time he had to hide from the authorities, he was on a personal mission in order to better protect the population of grizzly bears. He believed the park service rangers were not doing their job well and it was his duty to go out into the wilderness. The film depicts the past by including the original footage from Treadwell, this is because he always had the movie camera with him. Then, the present time was where the director, Werner Herzog, shot the footage. In the original footage, the bears did not seem to be the main focus; Treadwell made sure the focus was also on him. Throughout the movie he would make sure to talk to the camera and explain things about himself, his life, and what he believed was his purpose in life. He was always filming, therefore many times he would be able to retake certain
As the world we live in today continues to warm up, the problems surrounding the survival of the world’s beloved polar bear continues to grow. Over the past twenty years, we’ve seen a change in the number of polar bears in the Arctic and have witnessed a decrease of the amount of Arctic ice in the sea. Many scientist have come up with ideas to tackle the problem, but there hasn’t been a solution that has greatly influenced the predicament at hand. Ultimately, when discussing what to do about the endangered animals, it is valuable to consider what the species needs in order to remain; a healthy population and genetic diversity. Andrew Derocher, biologist at the University of Alberta, and the rest of his team have come up with a few ways to combat these needs.
The red panda; a species somewhat sizeable than a domestic cat; is currently an endangered species. The red panda has a body type similar to one of a bear with fur that is thick with a rustic colour. They also have a lengthly, shaggy tail for balance and for warmth during the seasons with lower temperatures. The red panda is an omnivore. Its diet consists predominantly of bamboo, about 95%; which is very atypical for a mammal. They occasionally feed on insects, fruits, and small organisms, including acorns, berries, mushrooms, bird eggs, mice, rats, lizards, and small birds. The red panda inhabit a narrow range extending from west Nepal to east and southwestern China. They are found in forests with quantities of bamboo.
