Applying to a college or university and being accepted is a major accomplishment for many young people. However, matriculating through those institutions and graduating is an even more significant accomplishment. Many factors may influence students to be successful and persist in college or to leave, and among these are self-efficacy achievement (Choi, 2005; Pajares & Schunk, 2001), first-generation college status (Horn & Nunez, 2000; Ting, 2003), gender and ethnicity, and institutional characteristics such as size (Tinto, 1982). A considerably large group of students who experience high attrition rates are college sophomores.
