Christmas
The word Christmas came about from the Old English days and was initially called Cristes Maesse, which means the “Mass of Christ.” The name was eventually changed to Christmas by modern English writers. The older generation of Christians argued and speculated that it was on the 25 of December that Jesus was born. They now decided that the birthday of their savior would be celebrated on this day. When searching for the definition of Christmas, the most common definition found was this one by the Webster’s dictionary. It refers to Christmas as the annual festival of the Christian church, commemorating the birth of Jesus celebrated on December

He would be the child of God. Mary and Joseph, who were about to be married, had to travel to a town called Nazareth. Mary and Joseph made it to Nazareth very late and had to stay in a manger since all the inns were full. Coincidentally, Mary went into labor and delivered the baby of Christ. Not having many resources, Mary and Joseph did the best they could with the newborn. The three wise men, sent by God, found the baby wrapped in a haystack in the manger. They looked and knew he was the savior of the world. Christians believe that Jesus Christ came into this world to save them from their sins. On December 25 of each year, Christians celebrate Christmas by fasting as a symbol of respect for Jesus Christ and they attend church to give praise and thanks for all the good mercies they receive throughout the …show more content…
During Christmas, warm-hearted people see this as an opportunity to reach out to these deprived people and show them the love and kindness that they are missing. This gesture is extremely important during this time since right now Christmas is mainly about spending time with families and friends. Some people volunteer in shelters and that is their way of helping. Another very popular way to assistance is to give a dinner to a homeless person or sometimes more than one. There is usually a lot of gratitude by the people on the reviving
They believe that Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ whom they believe is the savior of the world. For that reason they routinely include Christian symbols and phrases into any decorations they put up for the holiday. Many feel it is their right, and some would argue it is their duty to do so. This is mainly due to the fact that Christians are taught they must not be ashamed of what they believe and they must tell others about their beliefs. They feel they must share what the Bible tells them is the truth so that others will convert to Christianity and be saved from going to
The Grinch was then able find why the Whos valued Christmas and enjoy the the holiday as displayed by him smiling while carving the Christmas roast
He showed that although they had no money, they would still put the effort to get together and celebrate Christmas. When food was set on the table, we could see that “Everyone had something to say about it, but nobody said or thought it
Christmas changed from this crazy time of frivolity and immorality. They turned it into, “a day of ‘fasting and humiliation’” instead (Klein). When the people in New England, the austere and super dedicated puritans, heard of this they were all too happy to instate their own ban in 1659. The New England puritans were much more strict in their anti-Christmas attitude. It appears that in Old England, Christmas celebrations were more taboo, but in New England it was straight out
The Christmas Carol is a story that was later created into a movie. It was originally written by Charles Dickens. He created The Christmas Carol to show that greed is wrong and to tell the people what Christmas truly is. The characters in this story are Ebenezer Scrooge, Jacob Marley, Fred(Nephew), Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim, and the three spirits of Christmas( Past, Present, and Future).
This Christmas character shows a positive image of someone who has a big heart but can also be confusing to other children and adults who have never heard of this American tradition. My grandmother who is a native to Thailand told me that before coming to the United States she never heard or celebrated Christmas. She did not celebrate Santa Claus or the birth of Jesus Christ. In Thailand, they treat the month of December like an ordinary month and ordinary day. They would find it weird to see Christmas trees and Christmas wreaths hung up on doors.
A Christmas Carol Literary Analysis Essay “Today I choose life, every morning when I wake up I can choose joy, happiness, negativity, pain... To feel the freedom that comes from being able to continue to make mistakes and choices - today I choose to feel life, not to deny my humanity but embrace it.” - (Kevyn Aucoin).
As a young adult, I can say that Christmas gift giving is likewise to language. Similar to how I grasped the language of English and developed it as I got older, gift giving has also grown with me throughout my childhood up till now. Both have evolved into society and culture. Christmas has transformed into a "cultural ritual" celebrated year after year all because of social norms. The idea that society celebrates Christmas and gift giving without having to be forced represents how culture regulates societal behavior.
“Christmas is the day that holds all time together” (Alexander Smith) Christmas is a holiday full of joy and happiness, and people from all over the world loves Christmas, not only children but also adults. As a result, thousands of companies see the business opportunities of Christmas, which formed Christmas big Sales, Christmas special products, and Christmas series shows and movies. Chanukah or Hanukkah is a lesser Jewish festival, lasting eight days beginning in mid to late December. It is not the same days each year, but the length, eight days, stays the same. Chanukah is unique because it is one of the few Jewish holidays not mentioned in the Torah. The story of how Chanukah came to be is contained in the books of 1 and 2 Maccabees, which are not part of the Jewish canon of the Hebrew Bible. Chanukah commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem, where Jews had risen up against their Greek-Syrian oppressors in the Maccabean Revolt.
You may often come across the Christmas Carol story in many different forms but the play and movie are the most common. Say for example, the play written by Charles Dickens. This play takes place in various places in the city of London. The Christmas Carol play comes to life on Christmas Eve in the winter of 1843.(Dickens, 1) Ebenezer Scrooge is the main character who has absolutely no respect for Christmas at all. Matter of fact, he despises this merry holiday which is called to be the conflict of the play but Bob Cratchit, who works for him, is just filled with the thought of it.
The Civic of Christmas When most people think of Christmastime, they picture Santa Claus, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, The Nutcracker, and snow-covered hills perfect for sledding. At face value, these age-old holiday observances are just ways of celebrating the holiday season, or traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. However, upon further examination, aspects of the holiday season have had deep-rooted impacts on our society. During the turn-of-the-twentieth-century Progressive Era, practiced rhetoricians took strategic advantage of the opportunity to connect the emotional appeals of the holiday season with the widespread social activism that unfurled across the nation. The landmark
In fact, this year I could have bought a Christmas tree and stockings at the same time as I was buying candy corn and a pumpkin to carve into a jack o’lantern. Christmas has become one of the most dominant holidays in our history; however, I believe that Thanksgiving deserves equal recognition. While both holidays may share similar components, it is their differences that make both holidays equally important. Christmas originally was a celebration of the Winter Solstice for early Europeans.

The sound of birds chirping garishly outside my window, wakens me from a deep slumber. Opening my eyes, I see the morning sun’s rays illuminating my room. I’m longing for sleep to engulf me back into its warm embrace. My father ruins any hope of going back to sleep as he hollers upstairs that breakfast is ready. Standing up and doing a morning stretch is when I first smell it.
