Over the course of their career, their roles have developed from health professionals who respond to requests to attend people suffering health crises to a healer, clinician, teacher and leader. Healing is a process of supporting another physically, mentally, and spiritually during their illness. Illness has a great impact on the patient’s wellbeing and in some worse cases, the patient’s life can be in danger, therefore leading them to feel helpless. A paramedic receives the call that someone is hurt and within an instant, they're on the road, ready to take action. Knowing only minor details, they cant fully asses the situation until they're present at the scene. They wont know if that person is awake or not, whether they're calm or crazy, they just act and trust that their training will kick in to overcome the high stress that is present. One would say its too much work, thankfully there are those out there to take the challenge.
I am able to offer patients information, resources, and helpful advice based on my experiences and the experiences of others in order to assist them in making well-informed healthcare decisions. I inform them of their condition, available options for treatment, and available support services so they are empowered to take an active role in their own care and recovery. I contribute to their overall understanding and give them the resources they need to advocate for themselves by supplying them with this peer-based knowledge. As a peer advocate, I also help to open up channels of communication between patients and medical staff. In order to make sure that their voices are heard and respected, I assist patients in expressing their worries, inquiries, and preferences.
Paramedics play an important role in emergency response, They provide life-saving care and support to those in need. Despite their essential role, paramedics face difficult challenges that are quite frankly unnoticed by society. However, in this study they proved that the results of this study were held to a higher value than the patients’ own lives. It is astonishing that people in a profession intended to help people, were able to sit back and watch people die when they knew that there was something they could have done to save

Although Emergency Medical Services (EMS) systems have been around for decades, it is still perceived as the stepchild of health care services. It is one of the lowest paying professions with little room for advancement, yet high in demand by the citizens who need prompt pre-hospital emergency care. However, over the years EMS systems have made several advancements, making EMS more progressive and modern. Since the White Paper was release in 1966, several improvements have been made, including education in EMS. Currently, there is controversy on the issue if paramedics should possess some type of college degree, whether it is a two year, 4 year, or even higher.
On page 114 a patient stated “sometimes when I am having a bad day, you know, why is this happening to me? I say to God”. As nurse, it is important to help a patient understand their struggles and offer to pray with them. This chapter emphasize on the power of praying with a patient when possible. A family member states on page 115 “I was particularly touched when she prayed for Jonathan in the Hospital”.
In the past I have shown my strength in this area of nursing care when looking after family members that have fallen victim to sickness. Whenever someone tells me that they are not feeling well, I immediately jump into action and try my best to make sure that they feel “cared for” .The feeling of pride and satisfaction I experience after caring for a person that is unwell is what originally made me choose nursing as a career. Caring is a basic attribute of human growth and development (Griffin 1983). This is why, as a nursing student I know it is such an important strength to be utilised when helping a patient to feel better.
It is a paramedic’s responsibility to ensure the patients safety, and stop their health status to decline further. This includes keeping patients from bleeding out, keeping patients breathing, and even keeping peoples heart beating.
