On the average day, a paramedic has to deal with several life or death situations. What they do can be the deciding factor of whether someone lives or dies. But, no one would guess that paramedics are put in almost just as much danger as the people they help. Everyday paramedics work with the risk of being violently assaulted. It’s very common for EMTs and paramedics to be attacked while trying to help people in dire circumstances. Whether it’s a patient refusing help, or a family member of the patient, there is no telling who or when a paramedic can be attacked. There is an overwhelming problem in this country with paramedics being violently attacked, putting not only their lives at risk, but also the lives and welfare of their patients, …show more content…
Paramedics and EMTs (emergency medical technicians) are the first to arrive on the scene of emergency. Once they reach the person in need, they give basic medical treatment, such as dressing a wound, CPR, and much more medical procedures. Another main part of their job is to transport injured or sick people to the hospital. They transport people with ambulances, which has become an icon of paramedics. But the most important aspect of a paramedic’s job, is saving people’s lives. It is a paramedic’s responsibility to ensure the patients safety, and stop their health status to decline further. This includes keeping patients from bleeding out, keeping patients breathing, and even keeping peoples heart beating. In all of these situations, a paramedic holds the life of the patient in their hands. They are solely responsible for whether people live or die before making it to the hospital for more specific medical …show more content…
The vast majority of these assaults are cases of intoxication, whether it be drugs or alcohol. For example, the occasion where the EMS workers were threatened with a pitchfork, the man was under the influence of pain pills and anti-depressants. The second most common reason is simply the refusal of help. Like the example of the man threatening the paramedics for helping his father, some people just don’t want others help. Whether they don’t trust the EMS workers, or if they don’t think they need their help, some people will do anything to not receive care. Now, a very uncommon, yet horrendous, reason is anti-government attacks. This is a tiny fraction of the reasons for assaults, but it does in fact happen. People who hate and want to destroy the government have targeted out government workers and facilities, which includes paramedics. This can be seen in the incident when two people baited and violently attacked an off duty paramedic. But, no matter what the reason, no one can ever truly defend or justify themselves for attacking men and women trying to help
Saving the patient is my job, my duty, and like any other person's job, I have a professional status to accomplish.

Many inhumane acts are occurring every day whether you know it or not, but those that do know has the choice to be a bystander or to help them and speak out. Their decision and actions plays a big role in these situations. Many often chooses to stay silent, but that may be the most dangerous thing to do. Even though there are some cons to speaking out, it could save a person’s life and prevent it from happening again. One may think that it’s not their responsibility to help the victim, but that is not exactly true.
Introduction The prevention of patient-to-patient assault in an inpatient psychiatric unit is essential for the safety of patients and staff (Perez, 2014). The aim of this quantitative pilot study is to decrease patient-on-patient assaults which, in the long run, may improve patient safety during hospitalization (Staggs, 2015). This chapter discusses the study design and population plan and describes procedures for implementing the project, data collection, data analysis, the institutional review board (IRB) process, and challenges that may occur with initiating the quality improvement project. Medical personnel are given a very difficult job, to save people lives. In this difficult
An emergency room physician assistant practice and perform medicine on a team with other physician assistants under the surveillance of an emergency room physician in the emergency department. They are dependent to examine patients, analyze injuries and diseases, and provide treatment to patients in the emergency department. In the emergency department, physician assistants would face and treat life-threatening injuries or non-threatening situations. Even though they work under the supervision of an emergency room physician, they perform the same tasks as the emergency room physician. They also work full time in the emergency room.

Firstly, there are rescue workers whose job is to save people in danger. According to Ranger Killed During Rescue of Climbers on Mount Rainier, “Hall, a native of Patten, Maine, had been with the park’s climbing program for four years, the release said” This explains why rescue workers have the job to save people because this is an example of one worker who had worked for a climbing program. It was specifically made for the purpose of rangers to be there in case a climber would have an accident and not be able to recover by themselves. However, rescue workers also have a high chance of being injured or even dying along with the people who were already in danger. While the rescue workers could also be injured or lose their life, rescuing people is their job.
They also make sure people are getting safe, effective and compassionate high quality care from hospitals, care homes, ambulances and dentists. They also make sure people receive care in clean and safe environment.
Paramedics play an important role in emergency response, They provide life-saving care and support to those in need. Despite their essential role, paramedics face difficult challenges that are quite frankly unnoticed by society. Not only are they exposed to traumatic situations daily, but they also experience physical, emotional, and psychological traumas that can have long-term impacts on their well-being. In this essay, I will give an insight to the types of traumas that paramedics go through, and show that greater awareness and support is needed to address the difficult challenges of this profession.
The Exploration of the Career path for a Paramedic As long as I can remember, I have always been interested in the unpredictable and fast paced nature of emergency medicine. So when given this assignment I knew that I wanted to find out more about a profession in this field of medicine. I found the idea of becoming a paramedic especially intriguing and wanted to find out more about the profession especially since I know several people who are in this profession already. I had the pleasure of being able to talk to Bobby Horn who has been in the EMS field for over 20 years, including working as a paramedic. I plan to look into several aspects of what it means to be a paramedic which include the overall work environment with responsibilities,
A study conducted in Turkey in 2013 portrayed the reasons of violence against healthcare workers. Causative factors are intricately intertwined and complex in the way they contribute to emerging violence, but can be broadly attributed to the gap between healthcare providers and patients. Attention should be brought to healthcare providers that there is a lack of communication between them and the patients, and so they should provide accurate, clear, and concise information about the patient's condition, and the approximate waiting period. It is also necessary to corroborate the high stress level that patients are in, which may be overlooked by healthcare providers at times, hence provoking the patient and their family. We must also endorse the judicial system gaps and lack of security measures that are lacking in several hospitals all around the world.
Theoretical Framework on Violence in the Workplace Violence can be experienced by many different people in different situations in health care. In the healthcare world, nurses are one of the most exposed groups to workplace violence in the world. Circumstances that lead patients to the hospital can be very stressful which can lead to anxiety, agitation, depression. Through using the theoretical framework developed by Ida Jean Orlando, workplace violence can be viewed and applied to address or even prevent violence experienced by nurses possibly. Violence has been a long-standing issue in the workplace.
Abstract A literature review was conducted to answer the following evidence-based research question "What are the effects of horizontal violence in the workplace on nurses and patient care?" The review includes a systematic review, two qualitative reviews, one quantitative review and a mixed method review that will aid in answering the research question while focusing on the effects of horizontal violence on nurses and what interventions could possibly be used to prevent this type of violence in the workplace. These studies were retrieved through various electronic databases in which will be discussed in the remainder of the literature review. The literature that was used were all published within the last five years with four of them being published in the United States and one from the United Kingdom.
