In the discussion section, the current findings are further divided into three aspects, which are the comprehension of (a) general knowledge regarding paraphrasing, (b) the link between strategy of paraphrasing and the linguistics impact on students’ paraphrasing skill, and (c) the supplementary concept of in-text citation. These are all the major aspects regarding to the paraphrasing in academic writing coverage that must be comprehended by students.

This refers to the respond in defining paraphrasing which they mainly addressed it in its literal definition. According to the results of paraphrasing and the transcript of interview, these participants consider paraphrasing as the act of replacing synonym. There is no issue regarding participants’ in-text citation within their paraphrasing in the proposal (see Appendix 3, p.xi). Furthermore, during the interview, the students reply that they must include a proper in-text citation in their paraphrasing.
Paraphrasing without giving acknowledgement to the author is regarded as plagiarism, especially for the needs of composing an academic paper. One’s paraphrasing is not legible if there is no acknowledgement by putting proper citation in their writing. As previously displayed in the findings, the students have no difficulty in putting a proper in-text citation within their paraphrasing. Almost all participants demonstrate their citation knowledge in their paper. This is, perhaps, affected by their mindset that the authorship of the text is the first thing to consider in writing for academic purpose (Roig, 1997).
