My definition of parental involvement.
Hundreds of articles, books, studies explore the subject of parent involvement, its effect on children's academic success and a different perspective for teachers, administrators, and parents. Schools encourage all parents to be engaged, involved suggestions listed on their website for our choosing. Those tips may satisfy the engaged parent definition according to the school district's philosophy, but it's just one aspect of this complex affair. My definition, as a parent myself, of an involved parent differs from the schools typical parental engagement frames. I don't volunteer in the classroom although most schools recommend this option that has no impact on students academic achievements.

There are PTO's with a much broader scope, that taken the initiative to empower parents with information, resources concerning education policies, developing educational materials, and answering questions tailored to individual family necessity. A PTO I would love in our school. Regardless the involvement parents choose as part of their children's education, we cannot succeed alone. Greg is trying to find his way through his middle school life the entire book. He begins to learn about his development and how he is just being the puberty process. Through situations, family involvement and life experiences he develops the forty developmental assets for adolescents. If I was Greg’s teacher I would get to know him on a personal level to make him feel like he can talk to me about anything. What I noticed throughout the book is that Greg does not have an adult role model that will listen to him.
Therefore, emails, newsletters, sign-up sheets, or phone call reminders can be given a month in advance. (Scully, Barbour, & King, 2015) A great tool teachers can use to assist the parents with academic involvement is to always have an open door policy. Teachers should encourage all parents to volunteer or advocate for all students. Reminding parents that fifteen minutes you spent with your child or someone else’s might change the child’s outlook on their education.
A child’s education is affected by various elements such as gender, race, environment, economic factors, privilege, and more. These elements shape the outcome of a student’s educational experience and learning. They also determine what and how students will learn. In order to create an appropriate learning environment, there should be a sense of community. In other words, the common goal should be helping students succeed and reach their maximum potential.
“Family means no one gets left behind or forgotten” a quote said by American actor David Ogden Stiers. Family will be the first thing you have when you are born. Family will be there at the end of the day. They will be there when you lose your friends, significant other, job, and everything. Your family will be by your side through it all no matter how bad you or your life gets.

In relation to this study, Nybroten (2006) suggested that the life course of young adults in their postsecondary pursuits is being influenced by parental involvement, turbulence and parental expectations. This is supported by a quantitative study conducted by Simon (2011) who confirmed the association of parental involvement and high academic achievement which can be affected by family structure. Family is characterized with common aspects such as parents, grandparents, and siblings but there are so many other ways to distinct family. The word family is commonly defined as a group of individuals that have the same ancestors, and gather for holidays and other special events. This particular definition is true in so many ways, but everyone goes through life with situations that are brought up that bring together or break apart families. When I think about the word family and my experiences I have gone through and I would consider family to have crazy moments, lots of laughter, and unconditional love. Family to me is getting everyone together and having a good time and acting crazy with your loved ones, making memories.

Chapter 4 The most commonly accepted contemporary framework for viewing parental involvement was inspired by the ecological model of Bronfenbrenner (1979, 1986) and designed from a social and organisational perspective (Epstein, 1992). It identifies three major contexts within which children develop and learn: the family, the school, and the community (see Figure). The Overlapping Spheres of Influence model recognises that there are some practices that family, school and community conduct separately and that there are others that they conduct jointly in order to influence the growth and learning of the child. Young children are able to have a sense of wellbeing, safety, and confidence when provided with loving relationships. Young children are able to use these skills to build attachments, to be able to communicate emotions, and deal with challenges. Empathy and compassion is developed by having strong and loving relationships in a young age, (Social and Emotional Development, 2016).
EFFECTS OF PARENTS AND TEACHERS INTRACTION ON DELOPMENT OF EARLY CHILDHOOD STUDENTS IN MIANWALI 1.1 Introduction: The importance of good parent-teacher relationships has been well documented. Research has shown that parent involvement in education benefits not only the child but also the parents and teachers (Eldridge, 2001). The function of a good parent-teacher relationship is much more than just like a vehicle for status reports from teacher to parents on a child’s performance.
According to the Oxford Dictionary, a family is “a group consisting of two parents and their children living together as a unit”, but this definition of a family is entirely too specific to apply to every American. In fact, only fourty six percent of children in America live in a household in which both of their parents live and are married (pewsocialtrends.org), and I am not included in that fourty six percent. I have lived 1200 miles from my mother since I was five years old, so I know that proximity and where you live does not affect who you consider family. There are so many different types of families, and one should not be more widely accepted than the other. Many people believe that a family always consists of a mother, a father, and children, all living together in one place.
In my opinion, family is not specific to individuals within ones bloodline, but it also includes those who are married into your family, live in your household, and any adopted children. On occasion, people that I am close with are also referred to as family. Hence, that would include someone that I grew up with, have known for an extended period of time, and someone whom I can count on in time of need. Additionally, I can appreciate when members of a community e.g. gang members, members of a religious organization, and/or some sort of club refers to another (person in that group) as a family member. My definition of what family is was formulated by the values and beliefs installed in me from my parents, grandparents, and other family members.
