CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 INTRODUCTION Throughout the civilized world governments, institutions, people in authority and the public create rules to protect society in order to establish a safer world. The most comprehensive and agreeable rules to all humanity at large are those derived from the Devine Revelation, namely the Qur’ān and Sunnah. Without these rules and guidances, human beings would lose all bearing and sense of morality and society would fall into anarchy and chaos. In Islam, parents play an important role in the process of upbringing the children. It will be conducted from the principle sources of parenting personality development as provided in the Qur’ānic interpretations on Sūrah Maryam and Luqmān. This will be followed with contemporary books, articles, which are directly or indirectly related to parenting personality development for children education. The present study adopts two scientific research methods which are followed: 1. Inductive method: Under the inductive approach, the most relevant facts and texts are gathered from the Qur’ānic verses and the interpretations which are related to the principles of parenting personality development for children’s education. 2. Analytical method: In the analytical approach, the most pertinent texts and its interpretations will be analyzed with a view to provide solution to offer the guiding principles related to parenting personality development. 1.7 LITERATURE REVIEW There are plenty of books and researches that discuss about the topic of parenting. The writer highlights the concept of personality from Islamic perspective that must be understood by parents. In summary from her view, the personality in Islam refers to the aspect of morality, personality, personal, individual values and cognitive bore someone for external actions clearer, but the main cause of formation Islamic personality is guided by state internal and individual life. In addition, she also describes the personality characteristics of the father such as patience and sincerity for sustenance and giving livelihood, father as a main educator for children, be a role-model as well as socialize and serving children with love. Nevertheless, this study does not emphasize only on Qur’ān verses in defining the role father in children’s education. The points highlighted by writer are not taken from Qur’ān verses but also Sunnah and scholars’ views. Secondly, it is too focused on the responsibility of father in children education and its characteristics whereas the main element of children’s education comes from both parents which are father and mother without neglecting their responsibilities and obligations in order to nurture children.
