What’s the meaning and definition of patriotism in Malaysia?
Patriotism is the love of one’s own country. It’s a noble virtue that inspires one to sacrifice anything for the welfare of nation. A true patriot values his motherland like in proverb ‘Mother and Motherland are even greater than heaven’. We are here only because our motherland is here. Patriotic is a kind of nobility emotion, it is the responsibility that cannot be banished, The scientific connotation of patriotism. Former United States politician Adlai Stevenson once said: “Patriotism is not a short and frenzied outburst of emotion but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.”
For instance Muhammad said “the seeds of love for our country should not grow only in August; we should keep the love strong in our heart and soul as we make the nation proud with our achievements”.
Patriotism is a timeless trend that defines the attitude of its followers. It is also a feeling of pride in one’s country. True Malaysians are selfless individuals who think about others and help them live a better life. Unfortunately, many act otherwise and cause misery and tragedy. The unfair treatment of victims of murder, rape, abduction and slavery is unwarranted. This violation of human rights shows that some people have manipulated the definition of freedom by acting selfishly and senselessly. Freedom should be a shared privilege that people celebrate as one family, but the harsh reality forces many to live in fear and danger. Our warriors who had fought for our independence in the past deserve better. The gift of freedom was made of their blood, toil, tears and sweat. They were willing to suffer and fall for us. Their spirit was remarkable and their sacrifice, unforgettable. It is our duty to keep and treasure the gift by living
