Paul and Farouk have something to hide, but each keeps their secret for different reasons. First, Farouk was hiding his identity because Sang did not know any friends or family relating to him. Also, he never wanted to spend time with her housemate as the author says, “ He never said hello or good bye; instead, he behaved as if Sang was the sole occupant of the house. They never sat in the living room, or in the kitchen” (186). That clears show how he does not want to be known. Even he did not drive her home. So, it seems like he is hiding something. Farouk lied to Sang saying that Deirdre was just a friend from college as well. On the other hand, Paul did not tell the truth about that he failed in the exam. It seems like Paul was a shame to say that he did not pass the exam after Sang says that “ she was impressed with how far he’d got on his PhD” (181). A&P Literary Analysis by John Updike In A&P by John Updike, Sammy may be analyzed in terms of the place he comes into contact with, with a customer giving him a hard time as the three girls in bathing suits walk in. Later on, when the three girls walk to the cash register where Sammy is at to get rung up and Lengel comes to tell them their “policy.” Last when Sammy quits his job at A&P grocery store. Sammy is still and adolescent in the process of entering adulthood but this story brings the process of adulthood into an entertain twist. At the beginning of the story, Sammy is ringing a woman up who when the three girls in bathing suits walk in he can’t recall if he rung up the woman’s HiHo crackers.
Throughout the story Paul shows that he cares about his comrades by protecting them from the dangers of war, and he also displays that he will guide them in war. Paul uses his skills of intelligence to guide his team in the trenches and at the front, and he passes on his knowledge and tricks of war to the new recruits. Not many soldiers have all of these qualities, which makes Paul stand out more than his comrades. Even today some men don't express the passion and leadership Paul shows in All Quiet on the Western Front, which brings up the fact that the war needs more men like Paul. In addition, Paul was injured in the book and goes home and stays with her family while he recovers. He is no longer able to relate to his family, since it is very difficult to think and have emotions and at the same time with much death all around him in the war. There is much talk of how he and his friends do not think about deep things, but just think about eating and silly things. His father and people over all his people want me to tell them stories of war and hate Paul because their experiences are horrible. Paul has just returned to the fight and basically everyone in the book is wounded and dies.

A Step from Heaven accurately depicts several struggles that immigrants commonly face when coming to America. One of the first obstacles Young Ju must resolve is the language barrier – she knows absolutely no English and cannot communicate with her teacher or the other students. Although she learns quickly in school, her parents do not have the opportunity to learn much English at all. This situation is true for many immigrant children who are forced into the position of translator, which puts a lot of pressure on them because they must constantly help their parents navigate simple situations. Young Ju’s parents also must deal with the financial issue that many immigrants face.
It only takes only one person to change the way you think about yourself. The novel “Tangerine” by Edward Bloor is about a boy(Paul) who can't stand up to his fears. This changes throughout the book. Every choice has a consequence, and all of the characters made Big and small choices. Paul's brother Erik’s choices affected Paul in a positive way, but the consequences of his choices were not.
