Paul Revere (January 1, 1735 - May 10, 1818) was a Patriot in the revolutionary war remembered for his self-less ness and his most famous accomplishment, “The midnight ride of Paul Revere.” He was a great leader and role model in the beginning of our new nation. On the night of April 18, 1775, a patriot leader in Boston, Joseph Warren hears word about an attack on Concord, where patriots were keeping arms and also where patriot leaders John Hancock and Samuel Adams were staying. British troops were marching to Concord to destroy the arms and capture Hancock and Adams. Warren sends Paul Revere to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock.
Paul Revere was an American silversmith, engraver, industrialist, and a Patriot in the American Revolution. Paul Revere is also best known for alerting the colonial militia to the approach of British forces before the battle of lexington and Concord. Author Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote Paul Revere's Ride to inspire people to go and fight, preserve America, and freedom. In the poem, Longfellow talks about Paul Revere and how he alerted the Lexington minutemen. As time passed, Paul Revere would ride his horse through Medford, Lexington, and Concord to warn the patriots.
When he got there, he saw two British Officers. They tried to capture Revere, but he escaped to Medford. In Medford he quickly warned everybody he saw that the British were coming. In Lexington he found Hancock and Adams, and they left for Concord. They were then joined by Dr. Prescott who they learned to be a high Son of Liberty.
A Start To A Battle “If the two lanterns hang in the North church steeple that will give a signal to the Americans that the British are coming by sea not land.” This famous quote by Paul Revere describes his idea to secretly signal that the British were coming. This is one example of how he played an important role in the American Revolutionary War. Before the War, Paul Revere’s role in the Sons of Liberty was to be a leader and help defend the Americans.
The midnight ride is one of the most iconic moments in history. Paul Revere is most known for his contribution to the American Revolution. Tom Robinson is a mockingbird in that he doesn't do one thing wrong. All he does is provide help to the people he interacts with. That is exactly how he got in trouble. Tom Robinson was helping Mayella with some chores. He was humming a melody and when he chopped up the dresser drawers. He was giving of himself help. He was in no way harming anyone. Then when Bob Ewell came home and found Tom Robinson, he set out to ruin his life.
For this project, I selected Paul Revere’s Ride by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The reason that I selected this poem was that when we lived in Massachusetts we lived in Concord. Concord was the end point of Paul Revere’s Ride. Given this, every year on April 18th, the town put on the reenactment of the battle of Lexington and Concord, at this reenactment every year they recited Longfellow’s poem. I always loved hearing this poem, so I thought that it be a good choice to memorize.
From the author of the poem, “One, if by land, and two, if by sea; And I on the opposite shore will be, Ready to ride and spread the alarm Through every Middlesex village and farm, For the country-folk to be up and to arm." Also from Paul’s letter to Jeremy Belknap, “... that if the British went out by Water, we would shew two lanthorns in the North Church Steeple;& if by Land, one, as a Signal;” These quotes mean that if the british come by land they will show one lantern and if they come by water they will show two. Since they are saying the same thing the quotes prove that the poem written by Henry Longfellow is
