The dark alleyway was mocking me as I walked down through the darkness. The street was dead. No one was there beside me. I was used to it though. Happy and the group walked up to me. I thought of running but I was so tired I couldn’t take another step. They stared at me. ”What are you waiting for? “Hit me already!” I screamed. They kept staring at me. They didn’t say a word.
“Listen, we need to talk to you”, Happy said with a calm voice.”About what?” Paulsen said with a bitter voice.”This is hard to say, but we are sorry for what we did to you, and we want you to live with us.” Paulsen bursted out laughing. He almost cried! While Paulsen was crying of laughter the boys were rolling their eyes. “You haha you want me, I mean me to live with with YOU!” “Yes”, they said. “We feel sorry.” Happy said. “Never in my life would I live with you”, Paulsen shouted as he was walking away from them.

“I mean, it would be nice to have some money and food.” “ But there is just this sick feeling in my stomach not to do it.”
“No no no, what am i thinking.” “I’m actually considering living with the people who used to punch and kick me every day.” Paulson saw them again the next day. “ so what do you say, do you want to live with us?” “Yes wait I mean no um” I said. “Let me stop you right there.” Happy said. “We will give you some time to think.” Happy said with a sweet voice. Paulsen couldn’t sleep because of the hard rusty couch. That and he kept thinking about the decision he had to make about Happy. “Its either being poor and having to be hungry every day or have money and be full every day.” Paulsen said to himself. “Ok i know what i have to do.” Paulsen went to
He starts to reflect on different moments throughout the night. The next day, Paul explains about Detering, and what happened to him. Detering tried to run away from war and wanted to go back home because he couldn’t take it anymore. However when running away, he was caught by the authorities and was put on trial. Paul explains that the authority doesn’t know about Detering homesickness, and there is no other choice of what to do about Detering.
“Joey, they’re making fun of your brother. They’re making fun of mike when his hair got burned off by the lightning. And they’re making fun of you for trying to take his shoes off at the field.” The quote shows that Erik is making fun off Joey for taking of Mike’s shoes after he was struck by lightning. The symbolic meaning is that Erik is yet again bullying Paul, and if Paul knew what was hidden underneath the sand, he would be mad about more than Erik just making fun of Joey.
“Decisions we make are the hardest thing when to make, especially when it is a choice between where you should be and where you want to be-Unknown” Erik is always choosing to be where he wants to be rather than choosing where he should be. Erik Fisher’s choices impact Paul by spray painting Paul 's eyes, hitting Tino, and killing Luis. A choice made by Erik Fisher affects paul by impairing Paul’s vision. Erik spray painted Paul 's eyes because Erik and his friend Vencent Caster were spray painting the walls of the neighborhood and they had thought paul had told on them, so they wanted revenge on Paul.
Paul gets to go on leave and he was sitting in his room thinking about his books. He mentioned that he “want[ed] to feel the same powerful, nameless urge that [he] used to feel when [he] turned to [his] books”(171). This shows that he realizes everything at home is so different from a year ago. Paul can’t find a connection to his home now like he used to since this home isn’t home to him anymore. This means that he recognises that he cannot bring back his youth as hard as he tries to or wants to.
Boston Massacre is a beautiful place to live. But there was something changed! The people changed, the rules changed and everything seems different. And I knew that there is something would happen to Boston. And you can see the people are tension or nervous and some of them were upset and sad.
Paul is experiencing internal conflict throughout his emotional journey and he must discover that it isn’t necessary for him to receive approval from others Paul is often discouraged by his dad and never
(212) Paul, again, didn't do anything about his brother’s decisions. Luis had a positive effect on Paul because he encouraged Paul to not be afraid of Erik. This choice affected him greatly because of this. It made Paul think what Luis said might be
As a result, all he has left to prove his worth is his courage and strength. He feels that it is his role to be a rock of the family, hence his unwavering commitment to his land. Above all, this pride and obligation to his land blind him from the reality of his environment. He has too much faith in the land and has invested too much to ever have an unbiased judgment of his conditions. Paul’s thought process is impaired by a looming surreal numbness to his situation.
In the next few lines the speaker says he did not hit the friend, he simply pretended as if he didn’t hear him. That says a lot about the speaker, it shows he is wise and does not let words affect him.
Would you survive living in this erratic town? Since the beginning of the story, Edward Bloor has depicted Erik Fisher as the self-indulgent, antagonist in the novel. Paul Fisher, the protagonist, is much more caring and kind compared to his immoral and dishonorable brother. Bloor reveals Erik’s dissolute characteristics by showing his actions after Mike Costello’s death.
Near the end of Paul’s leave of absence, he felt isolated and full of regret, “I ought never to have come here. Out there I was indifferent and often hopeless-I will never be able to be so again. I was a soldier, and now I am nothing but an agony for myself, for my mother, for everything that is so comfortless and without end. ”(Remarque 185) This quote accentuates the narrator’s separation from his family, when he cries out “I ought never to have come here.”
Paul gained confidence by playing soccer and did very good. Mom helped him out with that. Mrs. Fisher did not have a consequence, she was proud of her son. Paul was happy for
When he was fifteen he hit me in the face. He 's big, you know. I haven 't seen him in three years. Rotten kid! You work your heart out” (Twelve Angry Men).
Willa Cather’s short story, “Paul’s Case” is about a young man who is determined to make his aspirations a reality by all means necessary. That meant being deceitful as a start of gaining control and social status and telling lies to get to where he felt like he belonged, but where did he belong? This desire was the beginning of a journey that would eventually leave him with nothing. There is something unusual about Paul, something that can only be explained by his demeanor and actions throughout the story. With that said, I intend to construct a complete character analysis of Paul as he searches for satisfaction.
“Just try and tell us exactly what happened so we can do our best”, said Annalise. The entire team, including bonnie and frank began to take
