The American dream is a dream of land in which life should be better and richer for everyone. It’s a land where people succeed to accomplish their ambition of a better life. Most of the people have a different way of defining this American Dream. Unfortunately, for some, it could mean wealth,status,or power whereas for others it could mean companionship, good morals,love,and amity. According to our Declaration of Independence, it entitles every man and woman the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
America is viewed as the land of the free. Free and unlimited chances to strive for a dream. The American Dream consist of working hard in order to obtain one’s true desire in life. However if you fail, all is not lost because in America there is no limit to how many times someone can try again. Although not all will succeed, it is difficult to break the American Spirit.

Many have heard of the American Dream. It is the idea by which freedom means that one is afforded the opportunity for prosperity and success reached by hard work in a culture with few barriers. People from all over the world aspire to come to America and live this dream, the American Dream. Millions of immigrants legally enter this county in pursuit of the aforementioned dream; however, each year half a million immigrants enter this country unlawfully (Immigration Reform. 2006. P5).
Statistically, the American Dream is perishing due to the rise of income inequality and the slowing of economic growth. Income inequality is a dominant problem in the United States. The top 1% of the United States occupies 20% of all the country's income, while the bottom 50% only obtains 12%. Since 1980, the average annual income of the top 1% has substantially increased from $344,000 to over one million dollars.
America is known as “The Land of Opportunity” and it established the concept of the American Dream in the 1900’s. The fight for this dream was prevalent even before it was given a name in 1930. The founding fathers wrote this belief into the constitution with the words “All Americans are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights. Among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” .Some Americans believe that the American Dream can still be obtained in the 21st Century with hard work and perservance ; however, a majority of the American population among race gender and class has a different point of view on what America still provides to their citizens because economic insta8bility and lack of equal opportunity.

But, of course we can all think of examples of Americans who truly flew up to the top on their own, what matters the most are the statistics. To what extent do an individual’s life chances solely depend on the fact of income and education to their parents? Numbers show that the American dream has become more or less simply a dream or myth.
