The Louisiana purchase was a “watershed” event. This purchase nearly doubled the land mass of a new nation. We got this area from France in 1803. We purchased the Louisiana territory for 15 million dollars and increased in size by 828,000 square miles stretching from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains. In 1802 Jefferson predicted that Spain would retrocede to France, the vast area of Louisiana. From the deal that was made 15 states were eventually created. Since France was so slow at making the Louisiana area a slave area they asked the US if we wanted to purchase all if the Louisiana Area. 9 years after the US purchased Louisiana, the first state to be created was Louisiana

Prime Minister Hideki Tojo led the Japanese attack on the American naval base at Pearl Harbor. On December 7th, 1941, Japan led an attack on the US naval base at Pearl Harbor. Japanese bombers destroyed 19 US ships, and 188 aircraft. As well, the attack resulted in the death of 2,400 US soldiers and 65 Japanese servicemen. As soon as Japan sees that they had stopped trades with them and were limiting rights to the Japanese it gave them a shock and from then they knew they must get revenge. The Japanese have had a plan to take over the world but they had countries in the way that were stronger but soon the US started to back away from the Japanese. So why did Japan attack Pearl Harbor? Japan cannot get to take over the world with the US embargo on materials and the naval expansion act.

One day that will always be remembered by America is the date of December 7, 1941, which changed American history forever. December 7, 1941 was the day the Japanese warplanes attacked Pearl Harbor (Hawaii) which stationed many of American ships and airfields. Immediately after the bombings, United States President Franklin Roosevelt declared war on Japan, leading to a direct involvement into World War ll. Japan had many reason to do so but Japan attacked Pearl harbor for three reasons which were that they had a plan for a new world order, United States were expanding their number of naval ships rapidly, and an oil embargo was placed upon Japan

If you were threatened by an individual, would you throw the first punch or wait for the attack. This is how Japan felt when they were trying to dominate Asia. On Sunday December 7, 1941 the Japanese attacked the United State’s biggest naval base, Pearl Harbor. This attack was a turning point for the United States because this was one factor that brought them into World War II to fight against the Axis Powers. In conclusion, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor because of their nationalist mentality, America’s embargo of oil to Japan and fearing that the United States will attack them first.

Try putting yourself in president Truman’s place how would you have dealt with Japan? Make a treaty or just try and completely destroy them? The U.S. and president Truman had a very hard decision to make dealing with Japan. Although there was several reasons to not drop the atomic bomb, the U.S. had good reason for the bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki which were justified due to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, to keep the nation safe, and to stop the Japanese empire from becoming any stronger.

The Philippines were in-between Japan and their potential oil supply,(DOC B). A possible and smart tactic for Japan would to attack Pearl Harbor and while the fleet is weak, take over the Philippines. Once Japan had acquired the Philippines they would have a base to take over many nations that have large oil amounts. A major factor as to why Pearl Harbor was attacked was that the Americans were cutting Japan off from their oil supply. Japan, as an island nation, had very few natural resources and were very dependant on the American oil. The oil embargo was to be catastrophic for the nation in the future, “Two years from now we will have no petroleum for military use. Ships will stop moving,”(DOC E). As a political revenge act, Japan may have attacked Pearl Harbor to get back at America for the oil embargo. The United States removing all Japanese access to oil and pushed the nation to desperation. They needed oil and the only rational thing to do was attack Pearl Harbor in their eyes. Japan’s desperation was clear because America was already supplying them 80% of their oil (DOC D). With next to none natural resources in Japan the American supply was vital. The Battle of Leyte Gulf is also known as the Battles of Leyte Gulf and was fought October 23-26, 1944 between The Japanese Imperial Navy and the US Navy near the islands of Leyte, Samar and Luzon. This battle is known as one of the greatest battles of all times as well as the largest naval battle fought in modern history due to 200,000 soldiers involved. In 1942 General Douglas MacArthur had promised the Filipinos that he would return to liberate them. On October 20, 1944 - a few days before the Battle of Leyte Gulf began- General MacArthur kept his promised and arrived in Leyte with the Allied Forces and the US Navy’s Third and Seventh Fleets as support for his invasion (8 Facts About the Battle...that will blow your mind).
