The Mysterious Cheater Ever since sports were founded someone has tried to cheat. Even people in professional leagues try to cheat. All of these cheaters have one thing in common; the use of PEDs. PEDs are something that anybody and everybody can use. They can be found being used by body builders, professional players, and many other people. They may be beneficial in some ways, but they do more harm than anything. The effects are short term and long term. PEDs give the person using them physical and physiological effects (Hinkle, Shelby). Ped’s are nothing but bad news for people that use them. Many famous athletes and public figures have been caught using these. Famous people such as Lance Armstrong, Alex Rodriguez, and Arnold Schwarzenegger have all been caught using this (Ranker Community). The most common place use of PEDs are found in the professional baseball league. Players for centuries have been using PEDs to gain an upper hand on their competition no matter what the consequences are. These players are willing to sacrifice it all just so they can do a little bit better. Once a player …show more content…
Peds do not just only effect you they affect your family and friends too. In the long run it is never worth it to use PEDs not even one time. The effects are just to much for it to be worth it. There are just to many awful things that come with the use of peds and to me it just outweighs the perks. Peds are never worth it not in any way. If you are trying to impress someone there is always another way. People will still try and get away with it though. I think that none of the professional sports will ever let people use PEDs because it is an unfair advantage to people that try to get better the natural way. Peds will always be known to me as a way of cheating for the rest of my life. All PEDs do is ruin somone’s body and their life at the same
The Athletes that use performance enhancing drugs PEDs in sports has sparked serious ethical debate. A recent investigation revealed that 6 players on the North Carolina panthers 2004 Super Bowl team were filling prescriptions for steroids. Barry Bonds, the San Francisco Giants’ slugger and Golden Glove Award winner, will likely break Hank Aaron’s career home run record before the end of the 2007 Major League Baseball season.
Steroids should only be used for medical reasons and not for better performance. I cannot seem to understand why athletes would take any kind of drug without medical advice or take any drug with so many hazardous side effects. There are reasons why people do what they do, but after researching performance enhancing drugs, I would not think of any reason to use such a drug with so many ill side effects. In my opinion, if you do not have the natural ability and have to rely on a performance-enhancing type of drug, you should not be playing. Drug testing would be the best idea, but it is still not 100% on results quite yet.
Steroids are becoming more popular in major sports, and athletes use them to get an edge on their performance. In Zev Chafets article, “Led Steroids into the Hall of Fame”, Chafets gives great examples using logos of how steroids are used in major sports and how we should accept their use. Chafets explains that we should accept steroid use, for example, in major league baseball, and let the athletes be eligible for the Hall of Fame. To begin with, many major league athletes use substances that help them perform better and make them feel better. To be an athlete in a high league, pressure is always on and the performance really matters.
A lot of “greats” such as Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and Alex Rodriquez have all been linked to PEDS some time in their careers. When you find out about any athlete’s use of PEDS it makes you wonder have they been using them their entire career. Should any wins, they were involved in be voided? Should all athletes be tested for PEDS before each event? Those are all questions we should all think about.
For years, the use of performance-enhancing drugs has haunted all levels of sport, baseball taking the majority of the publicity. Many have lost sight of the fact that baseball players are not the only athletes that face this life threatening addiction. Due to the amount of padding they have to wear, football players can easily disguise their size therefore keeping them from receiving scrutiny from the public. This has allowed more and more players to look to PEDs in order to gain an edge over their opponents. The issue spans to not only the professional level, but the high school and collegiate divisions as well. Because the National Football League sits on a higher platform, they bring in an exceptional amount of money compared to that
The article tries explain how an athlete can get PEDs for therapeutic use, it also explains the limitations of this process. It also tries to explain that the reasons that may sway athletes to take illegal PEDs are very complex, these factors range from peer pressure to misleading information on PEDs to many other factors. In addition, the article also examines the dangers of the use of PEDs from a health stand point and a professional stand point. This article I believe provides valuable information for my research as I am trying to formulate the many reasons why an athlete would use performance enhancing
The main problem is while PED’s can improve physical performance in the short-term, they can have serious side effects and long-term health consequences. Carla Mooney 's book Thinking Critically: Performance-Enhancing Drugs, written by Carla Mooney, she says “PED’s can trigger mood and behavioral disorders, increased aggression, and violent behavior known as “roid rage”.” These drugs can provide physical and mental health issues. Also, for “Both men and women
PEDs can cause aggression and other mood changes as well as more serious disorders like depression 4. PEDs are unhealthy for the body and the mind. Steroids and other PEDs don’t increase dopamine in the brain like other drugs; dopamine produces the “high” feeling. But they can become addictive and people that use them will continue to do so despite physical problems and negative effects on social relationships 5.
In conclusion, Performance Enhancing Drugs should not be tolerated in any sport, whether professional or amatuer. These drugs are highly dangerous and even lethal to all athletes who use them. It is also unfair to athletes who choose not to use these drugs, as they are performing on their hard work and talent and not relying on an “edge” to help them reach their goals. These drugs are highly addictive, just like any other street drug or alcohol and can be fatal in many cases.
Another bad thing that PEDs can cause is bad acne, an increase in good and bad cholesterol, high blood pressure, and violence, rage, and anger issues. Another downside of doping is if you get caught doping, you could never compete again as an athlete. They can make you bald, give you mood swings, Depression issues, They are addictive, and they can also make your tendons more likely to become sore or
Alex Rodriguez has been receiving a lot of attention he has been known for his skills on the ball field but recently got caught using steroids. Alex Rodriguez became a home run champ and a three-time MVP during his years with the Texas Rangers New York Yankees until he was suspended for the entire 2014 season for using performance-enhancing drugs. This research will analyze why athletes dope in sports and how it negatively affects the athlete 's health. Is doping in sports bad for your health? While I was doing my research I found “There are many risks such as severe acne, increased risk of tenditis, tendon rupture and high blood pressure”(mayoclinic).
Performance enhancing drug use is increasing muscle strength, body size, and the healing rate. It allows fans to see the maximum potential of the athletes. However (transitions) it is not fair to the athletes that don 't use steroids. Steroids are not any different than other drugs: they are addicting. (compound)
Picture this every athlete in sports using drugs no one depends on skill anymore everyone depends on performance enhancing drugs like adrenaline and steroids. Many athletes today use drugs to enhance their skills in all sports. This is a problem because some athletes use their own skills and are getting beaten by athletes who use drugs. Performance enhancement drugs create an unfair advantage over those athletes who choose to rely on their own skill. Banning drugs in sports can make a difference in the athlete 's health Drugs like steroids could decrease the user 's lifespan Performance enhancers, like steroids and other forms of doping have a negative effect on long term health ¨Gary Becker, PhD Professor in the Departments
Taking pills and injecting testosterone are popular ways that athletes use PEDs. The whole reason that athletes choose to take these drugs is because of the unfair advantages they gain. Athletes take these drugs knowing it will increase their athletic ability and decrease their rest time. Anyone that knowingly takes a drug that will increase their ability is not playing their sport the acceptable way, and obviously this glorified cheating should not be allowed. Evan Argintar, an orthopedic surgeon at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, had this to say about performance enhancing drugs.
Mr. J. Hirby of lawdictionary.org states: Many professional athletes take steroids illegally, which not only represent a potential felony convictions but may also result in permanent career damages. People take steroids because it helps them build muscle quickly and perform more effectively at top levels. However, they are considered cheating by many sports enthusiasts, and they are banned from use because no organization wants to lend its support to a practice that leads to severe health risks for the sake of improved athletic performance (Hirby). This quote stated above describes how it is in-fact cheating to use steroids in pro sports as believed by sport enthusiasts and many fans.
