INTRODUCTION

1.0 BACKGROUND

Generally, teachers should always find new and interesting teaching strategies to teach in order to attract students’ attention towards lesson. Borich (2014) said that teaching practices in twentieth century has changed due to association with all kinds of concepts and teaching practices. For instance, the concept of effective teaching by effective teachers, numerous teachers’ beliefs and perceptions on teaching, related education and training for teachers have been introduced to make sure teachers are equipped with necessary skills for the betterment of teachers’ teaching performance.

However, this study does not take into account pre service teachers’ preferences and opinions on how peer evaluation during teaching practice affects their teaching performance. So, in this thesis, I would like to do a research that covers all 3 aspects as stated but from pre-service teachers’ perspective.

1.2 RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

This research aims to study the impacts of peer evaluation on ESL pre-service teachers’ performance during practicum. The research will also cover on how peer evaluation can be improved to increase the pre-service teachers’ performance during practicum.

Usually, pre-service teachers are placed with their partners at school so they can experience practicum journey together as they will help each other to polish their teaching skills. A study was conducted by Salih (2013) conclude that peer evaluation or review of teaching is a necessary process in today’s teaching practices and as such it should be encouraged and promoted among teachers. Other than that, this study will help future pre-service teachers to be aware of what is the right definition of peer evaluation during their practicum. Future pre service teachers will be enlightened with the correct peer evaluation skills and procedures to further maximizing the positive impact of peer evaluation on their teaching performance during
